I have said it before and I’ll say it again….concept doesnt sell films anymore because we are a more celebrity driven culture now….it is a shame that we know more about who gains what amount of weight/who loses same said amount and how their children are doing…..I say this in the most sincere way I can….I dont give a smurfin about Brangelina’s kids or how many houses they buy….lets get back to when a story was enough to keep us entertained or story concepts…..bring the art back to movie posters and cinema in general…..I’ll step down….from this slippery soapbox….
Putting movie stars on posters is fine, but I miss the hand drawn versions….it somehow meant more to me…am I weird?
You arent weird, but along with the celebrity driven culture, you have the big business that is Hollywood, where everything comes down to the bottom line. Better, faster, cheaper. As much as I love the design programs I use such as photoshop, I also really hate them for what they’ve created. No talent hacks that become designers/“artists” and know the least amount of desktop publishing to get by. Obviously its way quicker and cheaper to make a poster chockful of airbrushing and big headed collage-y goodness than to search out, hire an artist and “avoid” time consuming elements like if the rough drafts of said poster aren’t up to par. sigh. Ill stop for now.
