I’ve now listened to the first four podcasts and I’m not sure where the Times writer is coming from on the whole racist thing to be honest(unless it was the impressions during the Master of the Flying Guillotine review!!)
I think that the guy has basically confused some of the elements from these films with the 2 guys reviewing them’s own personal views.
At the end of the day most of the giallo’s and Gangster flicks were made in Italy in the seventies-very different times in terms of attitude than the ones we live in today.Many of them ARE sexist and to a lesser extent racist but at the end of the day they are nearly 40 years old and are just a mirror on views and opinions of the time.
Good job he’s not seen Autopsy-when Mimsy Farmer complains to her boyfriend that her boss has tried to rape her,he replies “Hey,you cant blame the poor bastard for trying....”
