This week we offer up a (somewhat) spoilery review of Iron Man and then return to the realm of TV to talk about LOST, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, This American Life and 30 Rock.

Then someone makes an plea for better hair in Marvel movies.  Wanna guess who?

Visit http://www.bigredpodcast. for the latest episode.

Excellent show as usual, guys.  And despite the fact that I disagree with your assessment of This American Life, I still love you.

I think the first episode, particularly the main story, was the first time in the series that they really chose a subject that justified the new format.  That episode wouldn’t have been the same if we’d just heard it described on the radio and I simply can’t get the image of that poor kid out of my head.

I get what you’re saying (or rather, what Deeps is saying) about the difference in visuals we’re being presented with on the show and the way in which the radio version seems to strike a different tone at times, but...I don’t care.  It’s like any adaptation, wherein changes are inherent (and to me, vital) to the format shift.  I just think they’re on the right track now that the material is of a more visual nature and I hope they can sustain it throughout the season.

Also too plus as well, you’re right, The Office was off this week and it made me a little sad.

Furthermore also, that link you posted to the AV Club on the CD forums made it clear to me: you guys are the audio equivalent of their TV Club feature, which I mean as a total compliment.

Wow - thanks Miles.

I still really like TAL - in both formats. I think what Ira Glass is doing is pretty interesting, regardless of the format. I just don’t think the show is the same essential viewing on Showtime that something like Dexter is.

I’m looking forward to the latest episode. Deeps was watching it last night when I sacked out (because I am so old). I’ll have to find out what he thought this morning....

Because as impassioned as that discussion was in the podcast, it was moreso over brunch. I think Derek nodded off during that part....

You know it’s funny you mention Dexter and falling asleep…

I loved the first season and certainly enjoyed what I saw of the second season, but for whatever reason I couldn’t bring myself to see it all the way through.  Oddly enough, I started listening to you guys around the same time that I stopped watching the show, so I, just like Freddy, let you guys spoil me on the rest of the season.  I’ll probably catch up with those episodes someday, but I don’t know when that day might be and I’m currently in no rush to get there.

You know Miles, reasonable people can disagree. I don’t think that Troll 2 is the greatest cinematic experience in the world - but I understand that you do…

Someday I’ll have to share the story about the time in interviewed Ira Glass.

Anywho, Dexter rolls out on DVD in August so you have time to catch up before Season 3 starts at the end of September.

I didn’t love Season 2 as much as Season 1 - but I still really liked it. And it was much, much better than the books. Sweet fancy Moses are those books terrible. The show totally overcame the weak source material.

Interesting choice of words there, Alyssa.  “...but I understand that you do...”

I’m starting to think that you haven’t seen Troll 2 at all, because if you had seen it, there’d be no doubt in my mind that you’d understand why I love that movie.

Honestly though, that movie is such great fun.  If you really adhere to the notion that a bad horror film is better than a mediocre any-other-sort-of-film, then this is most assuredly a must see.  And might I also recommend Lady Terminator and Samurai Cop while you’re at it?

Well parsed, sir. I haven’t seen Troll 2 yet - after hearing people wax on about it for years, I wonder if it could possibly live up to the hype!

Now that I’ve been called out, I will dutifully add it to the top of the Netflix queue. That actually works out well because a certain member of the podcast (and family) has been hogging the queue for a while.

Woohoo!  I’m telling you, I’ve got to be the Typhoid Mary of this film.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, unless you’re disappointed by brilliance.

You are to Troll 2 as I am to LOST and Dexter. I am responsible for contaminating ...er converting lots of people.
