Well, if I had to think about it, I don’t know if I’d put all of these artists on a short list of my “all-time” favorites or not, but as far as Last.fm is concerned, these are my top twenty most listened to artists since October of 2006…

Dean Martin (yeah, don’t ask. strangely enough it’s listed as number one because of a single song and it rose to the top on a bet I had with a co-worker)

Donald Rubenstein (George Romero’s Martin is one of my favorite movies. Donald Rubensteins soundtrack is my favorite soundtrack)

John Coltrane (the greatest thing to ever happen to jazz)

Steely Dan (I’m sure your parents can attest to the power of Steely Dan. Shit, you were probably conceived to one of their many hits)

The Beatles (words can’t describe)

Akira Yamaoka (I’m a great big videogame nerd and Yamaoka is responsible for the music/sounds in the Silent Hill series)

The Who (the greatest rock band of all time. If you disagree you’re wrong or deaf)

Johnny Cash (appealing to the country boy inside, Johnny Cash was Goth before it caught on with overweight mall rats)

The Dickies (I like my punk catchy and fun)

The Zombies (The most underrated band of all time)

Tom Waits (poet, musician, genius)

Devo (good and geeky)

The Advantage (there’s nothing better than taking the sweet beeps and boops of classic NES games and turning them into rock songs)

Blonde Redhead (about as Indie and contemporary as I get)

Goblin (Argento’s movies wouldn’t have been half as good as they are without these guys)

David Bowie (where would rock music be without this man’s influence?)

Pixies (the best thing to come out of the “Alternative Rock” movement)

Miles Davis (dangerous, innovative, amazing)

The Smiths (the best thing to come out of England in the 80’s)

Jaga Jazzist (the best defunct band you’ve never heard of)

zombie apocalypse- listen to Shai Hulud instead.

you in a hardcore band (or any other band) by any chance? shai hulud actually made it out to aus once on their we broke up world tour and they just ruled ...they are one of my all time faves.  i could imagine the banner being uppity… shame about that when their music is good though.

I’m going with Djinnocide on Tom Waits, David Bowie and Dean Martin.  In fact I would put Tom Waits at the very top of my list.  He has put out such a wide range of music that there should be something there for everyone to like.  My favorites would have to be Nighthawks at the Diner, Small Change, Big Time, Raindogs and Swordfish Trombones.  It’s all good though.  As for the rest.

R.E.M. (the early stuff)
Ween (also the early stuff)
Frank Sinatra (strangely enough, not the early stuff)

Natalie Merchant (incredible voice)
The Cranberries (a guilty pleasure)
The Sex Pistols (they only had one but it was a good one)
Brasil 66, Esquivel and almost anything else exotica/lounge

it would be awesome if you could maybe make a compilation of some of the music listed hear (like one song from each artist mentioned) so people could hear it and get into new stuff they never knew about! i know the whole legality of it might be an issue but you could always put it up on rapidshare or as a download in the members section. A cinema diabolica compilation would be sweet! you could call it “the legion - AIRS!” (kinda lame i know, you guys feel free to re-name my atempt) and you could chuck miscellaneous reviews from listeners, voicemails, show extras, movie samples, theme music and the like on it… would be a sweet incentive to get into the members section!

it probably won’t happen but a guy can dream dammit!

God, Horace Silver is amazing! To reference an artist from my own list, check out Steely Dan’s “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and then listen to the title track from Horace Silver’s “Songs For My Father”. Those bastards pretty much ripped that intro straight from the man himself.

You’re totally right. Wow! Both are good selections. I suppose if you’re going to rip make sure it’s from an artist and Horace Silver is pretty damn amazing.

Thelonius Monk is making my brain swell.

If I had a buck for everytime Shai Hulud broke up. im not currently in a band but have spent most od my years in and out of hardcore/punk bands. there is actually going to be a all Bill by Force music show coming up, or so I hear.
