I’m an asshole, what can I say? Although I think it’s fair that I redact that statement b/c I’ve never seen any Charlie Chaplin. I’m prejudging, which isn’t cool. I’m totally sure I’ll hate it, but I’ll give it a go if you want.

Yeah give it a go.  It is good for the soul.  He is a lovable tramp.

I’ve only got about 20 mins in, but I just have to say that Ken has an awesome voice and an even better laugh!

Uh-oh Kenny, looks like you have a little fan action in the form of a hot Brit!!! Grrrr!!!!!

>blushing< Wow! Thanks Lamia. You’re only 20 mins in though. Hope my laugh doesn’t become annoying by the end of it. It’s just so easy to laugh around these guys. Seriously, I’m still sore though that could be from the NOTLP initiation and not just the laughter. hmmm…

Thanks Erica, no ones ever called me hot before or a Brit for that matter! Brian E - how did I not know you were from the UK before - I think that make three of us around here.

And no Ken your laugh didn’t get annoying, it sounded awesome. I’m kinda jellous that you got to hang out with NOTLP crew!

Now to the show - I’m thinking that Nosferatu is one of those movies that, as you guys said is a part of Cinematic history. It’s a film I have wanted to see for a long time, like Citizen Caine, that is an important movie that if you love film you have to see, even if it is boring as hell.

This thread is breaking my heart - first Nosferatu, then Chaplin and now Citizen Kane?

I’m going to go cry in my room.

Ugh.. uncultured swine, the LOT of you! I’m going to go watch “Butterfield 8” and “Paris, when it Sizzles” to try and recover from this outrage! (Paris, when it Sizzles by the way.. Audrey Hepburn and William Holden in one film. Yowza!)

So then that William Holden and the whiskey bit was complimentary? Interesting.

Also Butterfield 8? Really? Really? That’s how you want me to think of you. Brutal.

Hey It’s an incredible film! In my estimation it’s a perfect example of pure filmmaking prowess. They had to change lots of aspects of the adaption from the novel because of the film code and it’s STILL incredible.
When you watch it you can totally see them dancing around certain subject matter to as not run afoul of the code.

I dunno.. I love it.

Oh, and speaking of trashing things - Hemingway? I just read Old Man and the Sea in one sitting last weekend, and I loved it. Chiz, are you seriously comparing books about men fighting, facing nature, drinking heavily and going to war with books about English women sitting around talking about their feelings? You, sir, have just had your second scrotum revoked.

I agree!  Plus, Old Man and the Sea?  Not his best work.  A Farewell to Arms is phenomenal.  Read that and you will see how powerful he is as a writer.  The guy boxed, drank heavily and ran with bulls… all at the same time!

He is a powerful writer, but I will totally lump 150 pages of some random old man dying trying to catch a damn marlin with books about girls fighting over rich boys.  They both are books filled with crap that doesn’t interest me in the least, told in the most boring way possible.  Don’t get me wrong, Hemmingway is one of the few True Men.  Him, Clint Eastwood, Nick Cassavettes, and Frank the Factory Worker probably get together on weekends to drink motor oil and kill elephants with their junk, but that doesn’t stop The Old Man and the Sea from making me die a little inside every time I read it.

You, good sir, are a philistine!  I have no idea why...not sure I even know what that means...that’s just what you say in these situations…

This is the correct answer. I would also have accepted “Plebeian”.

Nice show guys.

I agree that Nosferatu is dull but important.

The same goes for Charlie Chaplin, I don’t think his stuff has aged well at all (apart from maybe The Great Dictator).

Not sure how you can describe Citizen Kane as boring though.

Audrey Hepburn makes me feel funny in my pantular area.

Yes, I’m also a Brit, glad there are a couple of us here to try and keep these colonials in check.

Nacho Cerda did not make Time Crimes, that was Nacho Vigalondo.  Do try and track down
Aftermath by Cerda, it’s available with two other short films of his on one DVD.  Beautifuly made stuff and quite disturbing.  His first feature length film is The Abandoned which I can also highly recommend.

There I think i’ve answered everything I wanted to.  Does this mean I have to go back to pretending to work again?
