We saw this last night.  I loved the movie from the beginning up until the middle.  It’s defiantly worth seeing and the blond haired masked peep cheeped me out.

There were two parents with babies that I wanted to smack.  Why do peeps bring their babies to the theater?  Why do peeps bring babies to R-rated movies???

To be fair, it was scary as hell for the first hour or so.  However, it’s a remake of Them.  I am really surprised that you like this and hate Them.  I thought this was scarier and all, but it’s pretty close to the same story.  So many moments just made me laugh cause it’s like a scene out of Them.  I thought the ending was pretty blah and the characters were no more if not less likeable than the couple in Them.

In both movies, I have the same problem; why don’t these people fight back, for god’s sake?  It’s basic human nature.  You put someone in a corner and push hard enough and long enough and they WILL fight back.  Movies like this become so much less effective when the characters are this stupid.

The Strangers was written two years before Ils was even made. Even if it were an “unofficial remake”, I still found it vastly superior in just about every way.

Well, I’m sure they had their reasons… however lame they may be.  I can’t count the number of movies I’ve missed theatrically in the last 9 years- simply because I didn’t want to subject myself and others to to even the possibility that one of my kids might screw up the experience for others.

Look, if I wanted to see a movie that badly then we would get the babysitter.  I realize that not everyone might have the financial or familial resources for that to happen.  That is when you have to be mature enough to say I’m just going to have to wait for this one on DVD.

There’s my 2 cents.  Should be worth about half that.

BTW… this movie has unseated Cloverfield as the movie that creeped me out long after it was over.  I saw it at the local drive-in Thursday night by myself and it was so unsettling that when I got home I left the security lights steady-on all night.  See the damn movie, y’all!

I had no idea The Strangers was written in 2003.  where did you hear that?

Haven’t seen it yet, but from the trailers, it looks like American is going to start doing to French Horror what it did to J-Horror a few years back; namely, ripping it off and flogging it to death.

It’s a good movie.  It is worth seeing.  Whether it is a rip off or not, it presents a slight variation on the story of Ils.  In my opinion, Ils was a far more realistic film, as the killers were not able to pull a Batman over and over and the characters in Ils at least sorta fought back, now and then.  Ils was creepy when I watched it and didn’t lose much as I put a lot of thought into it.  The Strangers was much creepier when I first watched it and then has just steadily lost steam as the shock fades and I actually think about it logically.  After all, it is supposed to be a realistic film.  So when I think of it realistically and realize the vast majority of what happens is just plain silly and/or impossible, it really loses something.

Hopefully not.  I seriously don’t see a re-make of Inside happening though.

lol, how crap would that be? Honestly though, I can see the American horror trend going this way soon. J-Horror remakes have been done to death, as have the “rednecks in the woods” and “remake 70’s classics” subgenres.

IMDb.

Not the most reliable source, perhaps…

Seeing this movie mere weeks after seeing Inside I was let down big time. I loved Inside but this...Not a terrible movie, just not entertaining to me. The fate of the mother in inside to Speedman’s friend in Strangers is so similiar. The record player stuff reminded me (unfortunatly) of Jeppers Creepers. It felt alot like a lifetime thriller. Very disappointed.

I apologize, but I dont strictly think it was a spoiler. Not too far into the movie, you see it coming and the result IS different from the strangers. Ill be interested to see if you seeing the strangers first causes you to like it more, because of the similiar elements though.

Just got back from watching it and enjoyed it.  I was pretty tense the whole time. The girl I saw it with was about to crawl under the seat.
That dude’s mask weirds me out.
