I just watched The Sacrifice. I thought the first half was pretty damn good, but the second half sort of wrecked it for me. Still, it was a solid pilot for a horror anthology series.
Had it TIVO’d, just watched it. Totally mediocre. Possible SPOILERS below.
And can you tell me why she sews the guy’s lips shut, besides that it’s a cool visual? Because I don’t get it--she kills him shortly afterward anyway(so it can’t be because he’s gonna scream), and besides that--how’d she do it? He wasn’t tied down or anything...you can’t tell me he wouldn’t have thrown her off, even hurt…
And at the end, when she holds the guy’s hand---huh? This is the woman who just killed your brother and your friends. You’re gonna hold ends with this woman? Really?

Just bad, man.
My biggest, “Huh?” moment came from when (SPOILERS) when the women revealed they’d never been left for the outside world . . . that their people never left for the outside world . . . yet you could see their roots in their dyed blond hair and all of them spoke perfectly-non-Romanian-accented English . . . except for the mute girl . . . who displayed that her vocal chords did work when she screamed . . .
I’ll watch tonight’s episode, but my hopes aren’t high.

You’re completely right, but I’m going to try and stay optimistic.
I had high hopes for Brad Anderson. His episode held my attention (good casting with Eric Roberts and Libby from Lost) but ultimately I thought Sacrifice was the better episode.
Still, I don’t hate on these shows, even if they’re not perfect. I love seeing edgy anthology horror on the air.
So far it’s not horrible. It’s not great but oddly enough, it’s been better than Masters of Horror. It appears that having limitations makes for better TV.
I watched the two eps the other night and liked them, true they were not brillant and had a few plot holes but overall I thought both were good. I have not seen a horror series on TV for ages as I missed seeing Masters of Horror.
Seeing Eric Roberts in the second ep was very cool as well.
I just now watched last week’s episode, “Family Man”, and I thought it was excellent. It very much had a Twilight Zone vibe to it. I liked Sacrifice, but I think I probably liked this episode better overall, even though it was a completely different type of “horror”. Decent acting and writing, I thought.
I’m looking forward to the John Landis episode tonight.
Ok so we’re watching it like a week behind. I just watched Family Man and I’m not going to say too much but I totally agree it had that Twilight Zoney feel to it. I just wish they would’ve elaborated on why he didnt feel certain things.
I didn’t really care for last night’s episode. Too predictable, not much tension, not much even really happened. There were some cool atmospheric shots in the church, but those didn’t add up to much. Since John Landis seems like a cool guy, I’ll blame Victor Salva’s script for all the problems.
Family Man was excellent. Definitely the best so far.
Landis’ In Sickness and in Health had its moments, but had me scratching my head at the end. I don’t want to give it away, but the internal logic doesn’t hold up.
Direction? Awesome! A lot of Giallo flavored shots throughout and some cool argento-like use of lighting. At least, that’s how I saw it.
Acting? Outstanding. Homedude from Psych had me creeped out the entire time, right up to the ending.
Script? What.......the.....F*CK? How do you do all of that build up and give me THAT? The ending is just horrible, but the first two acts were great, for the most part.
Oh and Family Man was incredible. Just perfectly solid in every way, for me. Why can’t we get a whole season of that?
