Probably would have to be the Da Vince Code. All that hype, and for what? It was marketed as an action thriller… it was like 2 hours of nearly incomprehensible exposition and 30 minutes of action. Yes, I know the book suffers from the same syndrome, but still it didn’t make for an entertaining movie, IMO.
And while it’s a little older and I’ve seen it before, I had to sit through about 20 minutes of Kids again this week. I just don’t understand the appeal of that film.
To understand the appeal of Kids, you have to understand its creator, Larry Clark.
In so many words: dude is into watching kids have sex. And he will load his films down with artistic pretentions and dumbbell “truisms” just so he can film lots and lots of teenagers having uncomfortably graphic sex. Bully was just about unbearable.
But Kids gave us Rosario Dawson and Chloe Sevigny, so I guess that’s two gems yielded out of a field of crap.
Sorry, Stef, but I could hardly stand “Strangers With Candy.” I’m also thinking it will be safe to add “Little Man,” even prior to viewing it this evening…
P.S. What is the etiquette for movie titles? Is it in quotes, italicized or underlined? I’m over-thinking this.

Italicized. You only underline if you’re writing out a proper title longhand. In almost all artforms, a shorter work is in quotes and longer works are italicized. So, a song would have quotation marks, while the album would be in italics.
Frex: “Four Horsemen” is one of my favorite songs on The Clash’s London Calling album.
1. Shut up, Stefan! Strangers With Candy was NOT funny. There were maybe 3 laughs--and they were little, at that. I will admit the premise sounds like it could be a strong comedy, but the delivery wasn’t at all impressive.
2. I have to give props and retract my prior statement regarding Little Man. I was not looking forward to it at all today, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. The CGI looked great, and I laughed out loud several times! I certainly do not need to see it again, but I feel it was tons funnier than Strangers With Candy.
I really think we’re on to something with this dude movie night at one house and chick movie night at the other. Let’s wait until the fall when the dust settles from the apartment re-arrangement. There will be massive wine consumption and a probable viewing of Steel Magnolias, just so ya know. ;)

I like this plan a lot. Do we have to wait until fall?
