Heres the trailer for the new Death Race by that master of modern cinema.....ummmm...yeah Paul W.S. Anderson.....this film looks like The Longest Yard with Mad Max cars.....she--ite is more like it....

I watched this trailer today as well and was appropriately meh about the whole thing.. don’t get me wrong, I like Statham and I even don’t mind Tyrese as he’s better than alot of hip-hop guys that “act”, but Paul W.S +remake+MTV style editing is a veritable cornucopia of ass…

I thoght that was weet as hell.  Nice to see that it isnt a carbon copy remake, but a different take on the death race idea.  I am a big paul anderson fan, for me he is the good paul anderson as the other one except for boogie nights his films are all crap.  Mortal kombat is probably still my favorite video game film and i love the hell out of soldier and event horizon.  I am definitely there for this one.

I’m so conflicted.  As far as a remake of the orig goes that film was pretty damn near perfect so a remake can ONLY possibly fail. But on it’s own.. ya know as a standalone, this looks like a completely over the top ridiculous action film and that’s right up my alley.

It isn’t titled Deathrace 2000, so I am going to pretend it is not a remake and judge it (and probably love it) on its own merit. It seems so different that I don’t think it will be that hard to suspend expectations and treat it as its own film (prison, focused on taking out other drivers rather than pedestrians, etc.).

I can’t believe I am starting to sound like a remake apologist, but I don’t know if this film (more carsploitation films never hurt anyone) would have gotten the green light or budget without the title Death Race, even if it has nothing in common with the original, so I actually don’t mind in this instance. It may be different if it was Deathrace 2020 or something though.
