I keep up with the horror world pretty well, but I havent recalled reading about George Romero’s son, Cameron Romero, becoming a director and making a film. The film is called Staunton Hill.

The trailer, especially Trailer #2 if you follow the link, looks like nothing original and seems to border on the “torture porn” genre….I don’t know….tell me what you think Legion…...

I’ll take derivative and yawn inducing torture porn for $400 Alex..

*or*

I’ll take nepotism in horror cinema for $400 Alex

This teaser is lame, the redneck and piggies are DONE and on a technical level they added the voiceover too late and far too abruptly.

Actually, I went to the Fangoria show in LA and I have to say that I stopped dead at the Staunton Hill table.  So did a lot of other people, from what I could tell.  Cameron was there with some of the cast and other people from the movie… I’m not sure who they all were, but nothing I saw resembled anything like torture porn or anything I was expecting when I heard that this was his second film.

Thats total bullshit you guys are looking past the creative genius. Cameron threw it back to the classics on this one. I was also at the Fangoria show in L.A and their booth was rocking the house. Everyone stopped dead in their tracks to watch the trailers, you all just have way to much time jerkin your monkeys- blogging.

I also heard Jesper Kyd is composing. With his sauce rubbed in it, there is no doubt it will be one of your favorites!

Jesper did the hitman trilogy, assassins creed, and plenty others. It’s just about time he debuts his first film with Cameron Romero.

Red, you were at Fango?  That’s baller.  Did you see those zombie rock shirt dudes?  Their shit was awesome!

And you’re dead on about what I saw of Staunton Hill anyway…  Did those guys spend any time talking with you at all?  I spent like 20 minutes talking with Cameron and the guy who plays the killer… BJ Hendricks… they were like the nicest dudes ever.  I guess they shot it on Super 16 which is old school right there.

I’m looking forward to what this new romero is going to do… I can honestly say that what I saw didn’t look ANYTHING that made me say “I’ve seen that before,” y’know?

Are you serious about Jesper Kyd?  How the hell did they get HIM?

Yeah definitely i don’t know what kind of porn these guys get off on. But Cameron Romero isn’t into the dominatrix shit. Whats all this about redneck too? You dont hear people complaining about Jason begin mentally retarted…there is always a reason for the crazy psycho who kills all the helpless teenagers. The Staunton Family values are just a little smurfin up. This is no redneck movie! They just happen to live on a farm.  And trust me there are no white beaters or chicken smurfin going on here.

I tell you what guys….you explain to me what is original here? The new Romero has a clean slate with me, I havent seen the film, but the trailer is certainly nothing original…..maybe you guys are easily entertained….thats why Michael Bay is still working…...if I’m wrong I’ll proudly eat my own words..until then…..also…...

Seems to me a film maker and a film star were nice to you guys and it worked pretty good….I cant tell you how many conventions I’ve been to where the talent behind a film are very nice people….doesnt mean their film will be any good…...if the trailers are anything like what’s posted online then….......snore…....

Maybe because I am a little older - I don’t know (I don’t know ages here), maybe because I started watching horror when I was way too young and shouldn’t of be seeing it, but either way this trailer showed nothing I would say was original.  I mean it is pretty short so I am not going to pick it apart.  But as a fan of horror and Romero (in his heyday)  and lesser known cinema I will surely see it.  But right off the bat I thought of pieces of SLAUGHTERHOUSE, MOTHER’S DAY, CHAINSAW MASSACRE and flashes of movies from the 80’s that I don’t even remember the names of.  But it def. seemed to try and go for that group of kids on a drive and the down-south, hillbilly, mentally challenged type killer and torturer that we have all seen despite any age difference.  Not looking for argument here, I hope he does well in his career and anyone trying to make a good movie I support and will likely check out their work.  So good luck to all of those guys and I agree with Samurai - a lot of these filmmakers and actors are arrogant jerks, drunks or whatever the hell else - so I am glad to hear that you had a great con experience.

Word…I respect that…and we haven’t seen the movie so I can understand we only have a teaser to base our opinion on.

As someone who has actually seen a few rough cuts I find this conversation interesting. Those making the “torture porn” argument should really see the film and I’d believe you’d be rather surprised about its take on that particular genre, as it comments on it rather heavily. All and all it’s a small film that was shot and approached to be kind of a period piece within a period piece (if that makes any sense), I’m proud to have a hand in it’s making and hope it does well.

I appreciate you all taking interest in Cam’s work as I believe he does as well. If any of you are excited to see this film then I guarantee you’d shit yourself if you saw what new projects are on my desk right now…

Much love, play nice.
