Hi all. Sebastian here. Creep with a banjo. You hear me on the show from time to time. New to the forum here.

Anyway, I’m surprised to see no mention of The Strangers on these boards. I caught it and thought it was really decent overall and a step forward in general for American horror. I know there is an assumption that it is either a remake/ripoff of Them going around, and while the films share superficial similarities, they are completely unrelated and different movies. In fact, The Strangers was written in 2004, long before Them was released. And while I wouldn’t say that it’s a better film, I would say that it is a decent offering and well worth a watch.

What I’m getting at is that there is a decent American horror film out there, that isn’t a remake. This is a good thing IMO and worth your support.

Sebastian Johnson is right.

It was well worth my time and movie $.

Three things:
1. Seeing it in a theater with dumb kids takes you out of the moment, so be sure to see it in an empty theater, kick out the kids that sneak in, or wait for it on DVD.
2. It really is engrossing. I ended up sweating and freaking out a little. I have decided that my girl needs to learn how to shoot, since keeping the arsenal unloaded and locked up in the basement won’t do us any good if random people in masks decide to terrorize us.
3. Don’t see the film with lame whiners who will later claim it is just a snuff film. They obviously don’t understand the nuanced terror of being threatened.

I thought Strangers was a bit older than it seemed. Now, I’m trying to recall where I first read about it because I recall mention of it before I heard about Them. I’ll check both of them out now.

My oldest daughter & I try to watch all the “good” horro flick together, so for celebrating her getting her GED I took her to The Strangers.  Obviously Them and this movie are not the same (although it did worry me for a bit), it was a great way to convince her she needs to see Them!

Tech stuff:

The acting was great, the ending excellent I actually jumped some. However, the movie is wrought with the stereotypical scenes like, “Don’t worry; wait here while I check it out…” crap.

I want a move to be more honest ALL the way though….

SPOILERS>>>

… not just at the end!

Moreover, how were they getting in and out? At one point, it shows they have a key, but when did they get them? They would ahve to ahve had them very early on. The said they “choose” them because they were home, not because it was all planned out, hence getting keys copied, etc.
