For Lovecraft week, I highly recommend Stuart Gordon’s Dagon from 2001/2002. That’s the only movie, in my opinion, that really nails the tone and feel of a Lovecraft story. It’s not perfect but it’s got a lot of good stuff going on.
(it’s also been years since I’ve watched it so if it sucks please don’t hurt me)
Hey, when I say I will do something I mean I will do something… after months and months of empty promises.
Seriously though, I really enjoyed the episode this weekend.

And Alyssa, BRP is NEXT!
Well, once you listen to CD - ours is really weak in comparison. We have zero production values, we do not have the awesome voices that F13 and DZ have and our audio equipment isn’t as sophisticated.
On the other hand, we have twice as much Derek as CD. Still - I’m not sure we’re ready for you, Katie!
Don’t sell yourself short Alyssa. I think Katie should listen to you. Our show would be complete if we had you. You could be our TV correspondant. Then again we’d probably get sucked into your Torchwood vortex and never come out.
Alyssa it was through my ignorance and stubborn laziness that I wasn’t listening to these shows before—that’s all. However, now that I know how good they are I must admit I almost wish I hadn’t. On the next ShowShow I’m going to have some things to say on that subject to be sure. :)
By the way, I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about Troll 2. If you are going to argue that it isn’t INCREDIBLE then I am certainly in for a treat I think.
Thanks Katie. We worked hard on that episode and I’m a little surprised that it hasn’t gotten more feedback. It’s always the crap ones that we fly at all halfassed that get the most feedback. Should we stop trying so hard and just wing it from now on?
I’m seconding the Dagon suggestion. Good film - even my better half liked it and he hates most of the genre movies I watch.
Oh, and the Torchwood stuff will get even better next season. The last episode of the current Dr Who series (excluding the x-mas special) aired last night and I felt really dumb for not figuring out how easy it would be for the writers to fling in a new techie and a new doctor…
I recently saw Call of Cthulu. It’s a very low budget almost home movie with sets built in the directors backyard. It was filmed as a silent movie. For all purposes it sucked, but I enjoyed the making of documentary. It’s just a bunch of big time nerds who love Lovecraft and tried to do something big. Their hearts went into the movie and although they failed miserably, I have to give them credit for effort.

There is charm to be found in half-assed, but I appreciate your incredible dedication and consistency. It’s hard to say that very often without sounding like a sycophant.
I love love love V, we should get together as 2 horror shows and review it. It used to scare me to death and my mother INSISTED on watching it. I want to see it now thru jaded cynical eyes.
I watched V a few years back, the ENTIRE THING, in one weekend. I borrowed the first miniseries from a friend and when that was done I ran to the store and rented Final Battle. It holds up wonderfully. The weekly series......not so much.
I watched Troll 2 over the weekend. I was considering having people over for a Troll 2 viewing party but now I’m not so sure. It’s hilariously inept, to be sure. But it took some dips into just plain bad. Meaning I got bored with it. I may need to pick a different movie.

Just keep doing what you’re doing. This episode was great, but sometimes the combination of films just strike a chord with people in a very inexplicable way. I know that I wasn’t interested in hearing a show about pirates...until I heard the show about pirates. People are fickle, don’t worry about it.
