Where is my head at?! I totally forgot about Commander USA’s Groovy Movies!!!  Man, I lived for that on Saturday afternoons. There was many a sunny Saturday when I should have been outside playing like the “normal” kids but instead was inside watching that dude present stuff like Captain Kronos, Gamera or that one about the flaming cockroaches!

The flaming cockroaches was likely Bug.  That film scared me to death when my parents took me to see it at the drive in as a young child.  The burning roach on the telephone still gives me the willies.

It’s hard to go back to these childhood memories.  My parents let me watch some creepy stuff as a kid.  Bug is one that gave me nightmares.

Another that had me sleepwalking and freaking out was

Attack of the Mushroom People.  I got it on netflix recently and decades later I see it for what it is.  It’s a commentary on drug use and addiction.  The mushroom people are not even really threatening, they’re basically stoned.  But as a young kid I wandered around at night afraid that there were musrooms growing in my bed.  I didn’t eat mushrooms until I was an adult.

Night of the Comet is a fun movie but it is no Night of the Creeps!

Personally I would have loved to have seen Creeps on a double disc with Monster Squad but I guess putting a hard R rated feature with a kids movie wouldn’t be very appropriate.
