Aaron drinks a little too much too fast and proceeds to burn his bridges, going off on a 50 minute rant about the Pop Syndicate family of podcasts, followed by another hour or so of normal PBR witty banter.

Well that. . . that just didn’t make any grammatical sense at all.

Please, please break it down for me though. I didn’t mean to start any pod-battles, it’s just listening to all the Pop-Syndicate shows and reading through the forums I get the feeling like there’s just a lot of information I’m missing.

#1 I don’t do Grammar
#2 well I don’t really have a #2. I do this thing where I type fast and don’t bother to recheck what I wrote, its all good I have been meaning to give you guys a call for way to long now and it seems like no better time than next week. But to shed some light on why we are the way we are about movies is because of the love for the cinema and a lot like someone who is really into collectibles, you get a sense of ownership.  For reals though Eli Roth sucks. I really don’t remember any of us on Cd or OTC raving about him. Although Cabin Fever was pretty good.

Youknow, I’ve been thinking more about it, and I think I understand where you guys come from now.  If I put it in terms of video games, namely JRPGS, then I completely understand the snobbery (really, it’s the best way I can put that).  It’s like how everyone says FF7 is a masterpiece, but I think it’s crap compared to Xenogears, which hardly anyone’s heard of.

PS, I’m gonna call into OUTSIDE THE CINEMA tomorrow, I won’t do it now since I have a tendency to ramble. So I’m gonna try and formulate my thoughts/question as best I can before calling in.

I still don’t understand the OTC and CD hatred of Eli Roth.  Hostel and Hostel 2 both have a decent story and so what if it lifts heavily from Italian and Japanese films.  You can’t decry Roth and then say you like Tarantino.  He is 100x worse than Roth.  The two Hostel movies are a pretty complete in design and concept.  Hostel 2 is a natural progression of Hostel and takes it to it’s logical conclusion.

Hostel one I can handle but the second might as well be a remake of the first one. The bigest thing i the lack of creativity. Ever death scene is stolen from another film anf Roth just irks me something about his personality.

Ok, here’s quite possibly a very difficult question, but I think it’ll give me insight into everyone (at least everyone that reads the PBR forum).  What’s your FAVORITE movie and why?  I don’t mean “guilty pleasure movie”, I mean absolute FAVORITE movie.

Mine is Rushmore.  Granted, We Anderson has gone downhill after that movie, but I have a few reasons for loving it above all else.  I love the writing, it’s fast like Gilmore Girls, and I’ve hung out with Jason Schwartzman, and his character really isn’t that far from Max.  The school play he writes totally looks like something I would have done in Highschool.  The soundtrack is one of my favorites to this day.  And it’s the only movie that I still laugh out loud to when I watch it.

While the second one lots of similarities to the original (as most sequels do), it stands on it’s own.  The story picks up where the first one left off and continues the themes and ideas.  Faulting it for being a basic remake would be like saying you don’t like the Friday the 13th sequels because it’s just the same crap over and over again, which it is.

What I like about Roth is his excitement about film and filmmaking.  He wants to make movies and the media has built up his persona.

This begs for the question then, do you like Roth as a filmaker, or do you just like Roth.  The best comparison I can make would be Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear franchise and the creator of Donkey Kong.  I like the man and all the ways he’s constantly trying to reinvent the genre, and I love his enthusiasm, but I really can’t stand the Metal Gear franchise.  I completely understand the importance of it and the contributions he’s made to the industry, but I don’t like the games themselves.

(sorry it wasn’t an on topic example, but the principle question is the same. . . and I know video games)

Braveheart is really good, sadly though I can no longer separate the character from the actor. . . Mel Gibson is an anti-semetic douche!
