I’ve read many post-apocalyptic books and need more suggestions… anything that should be covered on the show? Anything I might enjoy?

Infected: A Novel (Hardcover)
by Scott Sigler (Author)
I was going to give you guys a call about this book which i loved I highly say to check it out.
here is a quick synopsis
In Sigler’s riveting horror thriller, alien seeds from outer space infect a number of unlucky humans, who develop some unusual symptoms—itchy, blue triangular growths on their skin—that eventually result in the carriers becoming screaming, homicidal maniacs. CIA agent Dew Phillips must find out why these formerly docile citizens are running amok, aided by Margaret Montoya, a Centers for Disease Control epidemiologist, who reported the first of the strange cases. One of the infected, former football player Perry Dawsey, doesn’t take any crap from anybody, not even the aliens residing in his body. Sigler (Ancestor) leads the reader from one startling detail to the next—the creatures learn to speak (feed us we hungry); they grow little black eyes—until even hardened genre fans will find themselves whimpering at each new revelation. This terrifying page-turner could be the author’s breakout book, fueled by an extensive online podcast campaign

Dust by Charles Pellegrino is awesome.  Read it years ago and it still haunts me.

I loved the podcast version of Infection (old school title) so can second that recommendation!  I also really enjoyed the David Wellington “Monster Island” “Monster Nation” Monster World” series although there was a certain character who because of the authors description reminded me so much of an animated character that I heard every line of dialog in the animated voice :)

I like the story “Damnation Alley” by Roger Zelanzy. They made a movie of it, but I don’t think it’s on DVD, and the VHS goes for about $35 on Amazon, for $3 used on ebay, or free on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAXWK1o7NmQ

I’m going to have to start making a list of these. I have never really read a lot of zombie/post apocalyptic novels. But, hearing Bren and Brother D talk about them has definitely piqued my interests.

I hear ya, I just finished “Day by day Armageddon” based on the talk about it on the show.  It was a really good read.  It disturbed be in a way that all the zombie/end of it all movies have never done.  I gotta recommend that one.  I also read “I am Legend” which I also think is worth reading.  Sorry I don’t have any to add to your list Miss Bren.

Downloading the Infected podcast series now - but I remember a “radio drama” of Night of the Living Dead that I picked up when I was about 12 at a local chain bookstore (I remember wanting to listen to something in my new cassette walkman, and the book fit the price).  Was pretty good - from what I remember at 12 - and I have since been a huge fan of the undead.

There was a fan fiction forum that was pretty active (until they upgraded the forum software and dropped a LOT of the contributions - which made people flee) at MoviesOnline.ca (http://www.moviesonline.ca/forum/viewforum.php?id=10) that had some great undead “beginning of the end” stories.  As with most fan fic, some was good - some was shite - some you just kept hitting F5 hoping for the next update.  One of my favorites was “As the world Dies” which deals with… well, tons of stuff.

I even ran a story until I lost my muse which (ahem) was WELL before Snakes on a Plane or Flight of the Living Dead.

... those were the days!

I don’t have any suggestions, but I am taking all of yours and adding them to my list of “To Read” books.

This past weekend, I picked up Stephen King’s The Cell and will start reading it soon.  I also got a few more Stephen King books, namely Night Shift and Skeleton Crew.

If anyone has any suggestion of just good books to read, let me know as well as Brother D.

Sadly these days I only “read” audio books in the car during my 2 hours a day driving, or during the 10 hours a day I sit at a desk at work soldering little electronic parts in little electronic holes. That’s half the day, but it must be audio.

So many books and so little time! I’ll be reading each of these. Maybe I can talk BroD into teaching me how to make a list on the website with links to Amazon too… thanks for all of the great suggestions! (currently reading: Lucifer’s Hammer, oldie but goodie.)

I’m sure you’re reading this but it has to be said, Are you reading the Walking Dead comic book series?  The first 8 volumes are out now.  Excellent series.

Bren,
Have you guys joined up with Goodreads.com yet?  They already have two categories of interest for the show.  “Zombies!” and “Apocalypse Whenever”  Anyway, I joined recently as erfman so anyone from the M.O.Z. brigade should feel free to friend me up and let me know you’re a fellow listener.  I read a vast range of books so I’m sure most of you have more knowledge of horror fiction than I do.
Later,
C.C.
