Well I saw this last night with my brother in a massive cinema and there were only about 10 other people in the audience which helped with the creepy vibe of the movie.  The movie is very cool and is nice and scary.

Well the rest of this is going have spoilers so read at your own risk, highlilght to read.

You still with me? Cool lets go.

I can understand why the ending of the movie pissed off a lot of people as it was a very ‘Hollywood’ ending with Liv still being alive, up to the end the movie was great in fact i think the movie could have easily ended with the scene where Liv comes out of the bedroom and the guy in the mask slams her into the wall gets dragged away and you hear her scream. I have been watching horror movies for years and years and can easily say that this movie scared me and had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up most of the movie. The movie did not have a lot of dialogue and relied a lot on location, people stepping out of the dark into shot and the feeling of tension with not knowing where the killers were either in the house or outside the house. The way the movie was shot was different to as it was not handycam style but there were a few shots that looked like they were filmed from the point of view of the killers which was cool.

Now there were a few points at the end that bugged me and I wanted to get opinions of others, first of all they take off the masks so you know they are going to kill them cause if the you see the masked killers face you are going to die. However they spend the time for each one to stab both Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman several times as when the pull out from the house you here them still being stabbed and then they untie them and pose them but do not bother to make sure they are dead! Next they leave the knife behind that they used to stab them with which they handheld with out gloves so all three prints are on that along with the shotgun.

I liked the first hour.  Hated the last 30 minutes.  The movie, frankly, went on too long.  After awhile, the tension disappeared and I just wanted Speedman and Tyler to die because they were idiots.  For the first hour, though, when they were being tormented, I loved it.  Really creepy.

I’ve only made it out to the movies three or four times all summer so I am going to have to wait for the DVD on The Strangers. I did watch Them (forget the French title) which Strangers often gets compared to and enjoyed it. It was blissfully short too. Why can’t more movies be 75 minutes?

I’m going to sound like a movie snob here…

Two reasons:

1) Writing has become formulaic.

2) People will feel as though they’re getting ripped off.

I know people (sadly) who consider going to see a 3 hour movie the same as seeing 3 1-hour movies. If they pay their $10, they want to be occupied for 90 minutes. It’s consumerism - quantity over quality.

I couldn’t disagree more. The Strangers had me hooked from beginning to end.

possible spoiler, I guess.

by the end, Im sorry, but I got sick of the fact that they REFUSED to fight back.  Not sure if that’s a spoiler, but I dont think so.  At some point, you are going to take a stand and defend your home, your family and your life.

Well, I don’t know about you, but fighting back would be the last thing on my mind.

I would have done one of two things and you never really know until youre in the situation.  I would have either found a room and locked myself up in it or Id have ran for all my worth.  It would be different if it had been bigger people but those three kids looked like they couldn’t have been much more than 120 pounds each.

I guess what bugged me is they had the balls to try a lot of stuff that, to me, would have been scarier than fighting back.  I think the movie, for me, took a turn for the dumb when their friend showed up.  After that, the tension completely drained out of the movie, for me.

If I was in the situation that this movie is based I would like to think that I would fight back and defend myself, my family and my home but as I have never been in the situation I really don’t know.

If I was thinking logically I would either go into a room, put my back against a wall and wait for them to come and get me, after all in the movie they had a shotgun, lots of shots and knew how to use it.  Or I would haul ass and try and make a run for it (on the way out I would try and disable their car maybe shoot the tires or something?), again you have a shotgun and lots of shots and there are only three of them and as Eskimo said none of them looked big and scary just very creepy with the masks and all.

Last comment even though I can sit here and pick holes in the movie it done not mean I did not like it, on the contrary I really liked the movie and it scared me.  It’s just after thinking about the movie since seeing it on Monday night I can see faults in the movie and story.
