I want to hate this but I will be honest, the pics have been pretty impressive so far and I love Jason so much that I have a feeling I will be there supporting this even against my usual rants about remaking my favorite horror films…....yes I’m a sucker but this looks pretty good from the still shots that are popping up…...
That looks a little better than the last shot they released. Love Jason’s new utility belt. But I too want this movie to be balls-out brutal. I commented over on the NOTLP forum when the last shot was released that I was dismayed by Michael Bay saying the new movie was going to have a lot of humor. I thought he was implying that they were going to go campy. When was the last time an F13 movie didn’t go campy?! I hope this one is much more Hills Have Eyes (which I loved) and a lot less Hatchet (which I didn’t care for at all).
I like the look….a lot of people seem to be complaining about the “hair” but I dont think it looks bad. It’s not like its a jerry curl, or it’s in a pony tail or some shit.
Dunno… it’s pretty hard to f**k up when it comes to Jason, y’know? Looks alright, I guess, although I don’t like how f**king huge they made him. He’s a dead retard, not a dead wrestler.
Well huge is OK considering he always appears too be huge in the original series. I mean Kane Hodder is not as tall as you think…he might be listed as 6’0 but he is probably 5’10-5’11 , but he looks gigantic in the films. As far a wrestler playing the role I think it’s fine…the character has almost always been played by stunt men, and wrestlers are pretty much stunt men when you think about it. The level of dedication to each job is enormous and also pretty dangerous.
As for this pic of our favorite rampaging mongoloid, I’m actually quite pleased with it as well.. I may be in the minority, but as needless as the TCM remake was(and as upset as I was that they didn’t have the dinner scene), I thought it was pretty decent all in all and was pretty bloody in spots. I can’t recall who said it in another thread(Mattsuzaka? Nowtas?), but they nailed it in saying something along the lines of F13 is fair game to be remade; it’s more Suspiria and Rocky Horror type stuff that are so of their time, that they are essentially impossible to remake well..
I’ve been reading in other places where people are complaining BIG TIME about the tool belt and the hair. So what if he has a tool belt? He’s organized. And as for the hair, I would imagine that at some point he will be set on fire and lose most of it.
I dont think you are in the minority here Willy, I liked the TCM remake as well, it was a very well shot and interesting remake of a horror classic. Not all remakes are bad, as much as I want hate them.
Dawn of the Dead remake was very entertaining and I really wanted to despise that film.
TCM was very entertaining and I know a lot of younger genre fans really love the remake over the original…..
The same director of TCM remake is directing this F13 remake I believe, so I am actually quite interested in seeing what can happen…..does anyone know if Daniel Pearl is shooting this film? He was the DP on the origianl chainsaw and the remake and he is Marcus Nispel’s DP of choice….that would make it even more interesting…..
As for the tool belt….it kinda makes sense if this isnt the “returning from the dead Jason” and an all new mongloid on the rampage in the woods…..he would need the utility belt to keep track of things, I’m wondering how he happens upon the hockey mask or does he just show up this way? I have avoided most articles about the film because I wanna experience it first hand but if anybody has some of the info in here, I would glady appreciate some answers…..
Sam: good thing I’m not in the minority with TCM remake. Let me state the obvious though: the remake cannot even sniff the inside of Leatherface’s mask on a mid July Texas day when being compared to the original. Remake is good, but the original is one of, if not the GREATEST horror film of all time.
It is one of the most imortant films ever made, the original TCM, even outside of traditional horror cinema it ranks way up there. The remake of TCM was just about one of the best “love letters” I have ever seen for a truly classic film….thats really all I want from this new F13….a “love letter” so I can geek out in the theater and think about how much I appreciate the original films….....
I can’t recall who said it in another thread(Mattsuzaka? Nowtas?), but they nailed it in saying something along the lines of F13 is fair game to be remade; it’s more Suspiria and Rocky Horror type stuff that are so of their time, that they are essentially impossible to remake well..
I know I said something to that effect, at one point, in the thread about the NOES remake.
Just to correct someone’s minor misconception, apart from the suicide at the beginning which was just unfreakingbelievably awesome, there was almost no gore in the TCM remake. Kinda weird, considering how much he uses the chainsaw, but it’s true. Very little blood. Listen to the commentary tracks on the remake sometime and you will fully grasp why I hate Micheal Bay. The writer and director and everyone involved wanted to make a horror movie for the ages and that d-bag wouldn’t let it happen.
I will keep saying it about the F13 remake; Micheal Bay will prevent this from being what it should be. It will be safe, it probably won’t be gory and Marcus Nispel will scramble to make a horror movie out of a goosebumps tale. FYI, Daniel Pearl is in fact returning with Marcus for this. I love that guy. As for this pic? It looks like Jason. What else is there to say? That could be a screen grab from any of the Friday sequels, to be honest.
I personally have no problem with the utility belt; some awesome things can come from it if the people doing it have any creativity and passion towards excellent onscreen kills/instruments of death. There really shouldn’t be such a kerfuffle about the utility belt, I mean come on, are rich, handsome millionaire playboys the only ones allowed to rock it? I think not.
