In Co-Op Double Dragon was king.
I remember this one summer my dad played ball and at the fields where he went they had a small arcade complete with a DD machine. A buddy of mine and myself spent hours, and way too much money in quarters, that summer trying to beat that game. Eventually we did and at the end when we had to fight each other, I owned his ass.
Another favorite of mine was Rampage. I never beat the arcade but finally conquered the globe thanks to Nintendo, the pause button, and a weekend at my buddies house.

I just thought about Ninja Gaiden, the Arcade version. I remember you had that joy stick and you could grab signs and what not, flip around, and kick dudes square in the face!

I remember playing Karate Champ in the theater arcade right after seeing Willow. My personal favorite has always been Ikari Warriors. It had the joystick that you could turn 360 degrees as you played with a view from above perspective. I remember being able to play for a good 20-30 minutes on one quarter. It is still a dream of mine to own this arcade game, I’ve seen it for sale online before.

Jay- The arcade “Ninja Gaiden” I played after my run of the NES version, and I was dumbfounded by the differences.  I remember just being very frustrated by how I was having my ass handed to me by a game that I was very well MASTERING at home.  Heh!

MinisterT- If there’s one thing my MAME emulator doesn’t allow me, which I miss, is the exact joystick scheme you describe with “Ikari Warriors”.  I distinctly recall the way you had to twist the stick to get your character to face a certain firing direction.  (My personal favorite from this shooter sub-genre would be “Heavy Barrel”.)

Yeah, I was a fan of “Heavy Barrel” as well. More places seemed to carry that one, but if I had my druthers it’d be Ikari all the way.

I was obsessed with four classic games, Galaga, Mrs. Pacman, Joust, and my all time favorite Tron. Some of my fondest memories of high school are in that arcade dropping quarters into Tron.

I loved Tron, but I could never get past the third level light cycles.

The one I really loved was the second one, Discs of Tron. I could kick holy ass at that one.

And I wouldn’t be a true fan of 80’s horror if I failed to mention Splatterhouse.

They opened a new arcade near us over the summer. When Metal Mikey visited we had the pleasure of going. $12 got you in all day all the games you wanted to play and they were all retro 80’s and 90’s. Tron, Street Fighter 2, Aerosmith, Carnevil, Joust, Captain Commando…
It was a lot of fun. I managed to get my initials into Tron in the 3rd place spot, I’m sure it’s gone by now though.
