Watched White Noise and Control Room today while I stayed home with my sick boy.
White Noise was just that. For those that somehow missed this screen jewel, the premise is that Michael Keaton can talk to his recently deceased wife via Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), or white noise from tv’s. Sure, you’d think we’d all have learned our lesson about white noise from Poltergeist, but apparently not everyone got the memo. What starts as an interesting premise is so mangled by a nearly nonexistent plot that I actually had to do internet research to figure out just what the hell the ending really meant.
Control Room is a documentary about news coverage over the Iraq invasion, and contrasts mainly Western journalism with Al-Jezeera, the Arab news network. It’s interesting, though slowly paced. Not a bad renter, but it’s not exactly a thrill ride. The coverage is even, though, as the directors try to assume some sense of balance.
