Here are some of the docs that I’ve had in my queue for a while now and that I’ve been interested in for a while now:
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One
A documentary about the documentation of the documentation of the making of a film. And no, I’m not kidding.
Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man
I love music docs and I’ve heard really good things about this one. Don’t know how interesting it’d be for the group or the show though. Does anyone know if the story extends beyond a simple bio?
Mau Mau Sex Sex
A film about “The Sunshine Boys of Smut.” Need I say more? Yes? Frank Henenlotter makes a cameo. Nuff said.
No End In Sight
A highly acclaimed doc about our current situation in Iraq.
Little Dieter Needs To Fly
The basis for Rescue Dawn. The Het might actually like this better as it doesn’t included Steve Zahn.
Deliver Us From Evil
Another recent doc about pedophiliac Catholic priests.
The Exodus Decoded
That James Cameron hosted doc about finding Jesus’ bones. Is it not mentioned very often because it sucks? Does anyone know?
I Like Killing Flies
A doc about an eccentric restaurant owner. Could be good. Right?
The Day After Trinity
An Oppenheimer doc.
Harlan County, U.S.A.
I’m with you guys on this one. Haven’t seen it yet, but I’m dying to.
The Real Dirt on Farmer John
This one sounds amazing. Hippie commune faces farming crisis and leader is branded as a Satan worshipper. Am I wrong or does this sound awesome?
Girl 27
A major film studio wrapped up in a rape case? Could be good.
Crumb
Never saw it. Dying inside for not having done so.
Strange Culture
There was a section of this included in an issue of Wolphin a while back and it really piqued my interest. Here’s the synopsis: On the eve of his new exhibit, artist and professor Steve Kurtz was shocked by the news that his wife had died of heart failure. The medics on the scene became suspicious of Kurtz’s artistic media, which includes genetically modified foods, and the FBI accused him of bioterrorism. This disquieting true story is brought to life by actors Tilda Swinton, Josh Kornbluth and Peter Coyote in Lynn Herschman Leeson’s chilling dramatic documentary.
The Times of Harvey Milk
Been meaning to see it for a while now, and with Milk on its way, I can’t think of a better time.
The Weather Underground
Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room
Grey Gardens
I don’t think we should watch it for the festival as it’s the least narrative doc I’ve ever seen, but if you’re interested in watching two members of the Onasis family loon it up around their rotting mansion, then this is the flick for you.
Also, Man on Wire is smurfin brilliant. Have I mentioned that lately?
