The Samurai - 05 November 2008 06:02 PM

Girl 27 is pretty good, I liked it…..Crumb is a masterpiece in my humble opinion…has anyone seen The Bridge? Its about suicides on the Golden Gate bridge, it is very melancholy but kinda touching as well…..love me some Docs and yes Miles you need to check out Harlan County USA….one of the best with Crumb….awesome stuff…..

I watched The Bridge at a point in my life where I wasn’t too happy with the state of things and it gave me a lot of perspective.  That sounds ominous, but I swear it’s not.  I really do like that movie a lot though.  There’s some fantastic footage and stories (especially about the kid that jumped and lived to tell about it).  Good call, Sammy.

That said, whether they’re part of the month or not, I’m finally going to watch Crumb and Harlan County.  Those two would have made my list of the top five movies I’m embarrassed to have not seen yet (part 2) had we done it.

Oh, and No End In Sight is available for free on YouTube.  I watched about half of it tonight and it’s absolutely worth a look.  If you dig it, I’d also recommend Taxi to the Dark Side, which explores the modern definition of torture and interrogation tactics.  I’m pretty sure the same people worked on both of those.

I saw part of Symbiopsychotaxiplasm when Sandip rented it a few months ago. It’s a fascinating time capsule type film. I think Criterion put it out so there are a lot of nice features too.

I was looking at Deliver us from Evil the other day and it looked like the kind of movie that would make me very angry and sad.  Speaking of - I’ve been reading fascinating things about Letters to Zachary which should send me off the deep end whenever I watch it. It just came out and sounds like a total nightmare… well, it is a nightmare.

What about something nice about how great old people are? Katie will like that.

As long as that something isn’t Young At Heart, I’m fine with it.

Murderball, Rock School, The King of Kong, Tarnation, and Paradise Lost get my votes.

Deliver Us From Evil is a creepy portrait of abuse. For the sake of your listener’s souls don’t do it. Dear god nooooo!
