My top five bands/albums:
1. Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon—no doubt about it, tops in my book. Love them or hate them, no one makes an album as sonically rich as Floyd. Dark Side is my favorite, closely followed by Wish You Were Here. Pulse is the best live album ever. BTW, Alan Parsons produced Dark Side—the Alan Parsons Project is another guilty pleasure.
2. Boston, Self-Titled—just great, straight-ahead rock. Every track is great, with More Than a Feeling and Foreplay/Long Time the best on the album. Power chords aplenty.
3. AC/DC, Back in Black—AC/DC’s had plenty of great tracks, but Back in Black, even without Bon Scott, is just great, kick ass rock. Everyone knows the big hits from this album, but Have a Drink on Me and Rock And Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution are also great songs from this one.
4. The Eagles, Greatest Hits—Putting a “Best Of” album is a bit of a cop out, but this one’s outstanding. Love each one of these songs. Better than the second Eagles GH’s album, which is also great. Seven Bridges Road is a personal fave.
5. Willie Nelson, Stardust—Willie Nelson has about a million great songs; he’s about as close as America’s got these days to a troubador. Stardust is Willie’s homage to old American songs. Everyone’s head Georgia on My Mind, which is great, but his versions of All of Me, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, and especially Blue Skies, are beautiful tributes to Tin Pan Alley. Red Headed Stranger comes in a close second.
