Hey gang, on my boring hour long drive into work this morning, I was thinking of some movies I haven’t seen yet and wondered, if, in the grand scheme of things, I’d ever get around to seeing them. What I’ve decided to do, is post a list of 10 films, 1 list genre related and 1 non-genre related, so I can try to get around to seeing them this year. I encourage all of you to post your lists here and tick them off as you see them. Here’s my list:

non-genre related
1.The Bicycle thief(De Sica)
2.Spartacus(Kubrick)-TAPED ON MY TIVO; WILL WATCH SOON
3.Casablanca(Curtiz )-TAPED ON MY TIVO; WILL WATCH SOON
4.The Battleship Potemkin(Eisenstein)
5.The Maltese Falcon(Huston)
6.Tokyo Story(Ozu)-TAPED ON MY TIVO; WILL WATCH SOON
7.Breathless(Godard)-watched; simply put: a reasonably skilled, if inexperienced exercise in pretension. 7.25/10
8.Double Indemnity(Wilder)-TAPED ON MY TIVO; WILL WATCH SOON
9.8 1/2(Fellini)
10.Ikiru(Kurosawa)
11.Rio Bravo(Hawks)

(okay, so I cheated there…)

genre related
1.Re-Animator(Gordon)
2.Black Sabbath(Bava)
3.Strangers on a train(Hitchcock)
4.Martin(Romero)
5.Naked Lunch(Cronenberg)
6.Bride of Frankenstein(Whale)
7.The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari(Wiene)-OWN IT; STILL HAVE TO WATCH IT
8.Onibaba(Shindô)
9.Repulsion(Polanski)
10.Possession(Zulawski)-watched;  will require multiple viewings to fully appreciate though 8.25/10

that’s it for now… I’ll come back to this and revise if I’ve missed anything I’m embarassed to say I haven’t seen yet or REALLY think I need to see.

of your non-genre list, I’ve seen all but two. Three on your genre list. Re-Animator and Martin…I’d smack you if you were in front of me. Well, maybe not. You are BIGwilly.

I’m not normally ashamed of what I’ve missed. I don’t normally have a fondness for the classics (born in 1973, so was cinema for me). And the ones I’ve missed, I’ve either wanted to miss (It’s A Wonderful Life and Mircale On 34th Street I will never see, just because, no real reason) or they weren’t readily available. I have shitty credit, so I have no Netflix and my local video store doesn’t carry Bird With The Crytsal Plummage. So I don’t feel bad about it, I just want to see it.

the only thing I’ll say about 2009 and film = PLEASE DON’T LET WATCHMEN SUCK. That is my refrain for the next three months.

I guess I should get off my ass and watch Repulsion too. Smurf, I own it and have’nt seen it.

which ones haven’t you seen Shemp? Like I said, I never claimed to be the king of movies watched; I’m a student of film and have a loooong way to go before I can even be considered a knowledgable lad. With that being said though, I have seen a fair share of films, just nowhere near enough. Believe me, I could’ve made a list of 100 films I feel embarrassed to say I have yet to see.. I’ve never seen Miracle on 34th or It’s a wonderful life yet either..

Non genre - Tokyo Story and Ikiru.
Genre - Repulsion, Onibaba and Possession. Shit, I haven’t seen the Bava movie either. Damnit!!! That one I’m a little ashamed about.

I love that on the show you guys say I know my stuff. I don’t really consider myself all that knowledgable (or a good speller!). I’m more knowledgeable in the indie world than I am in the genre world. The reason I listen to CD is that half the stuff they cover I havn’t seen. I listen to you guys, not just because you’re swell fellas, but because you talk about alot movies I have seen and love. But for every movie I’ve seen and loved, there’s a Prowler you cover that makes me sad and ashamed to have NEVER even heard of. I can talk Sundance all day with anyone and hold my own. And certain genres. Horror, Blaxpoitation. That said, I do know some stuff. I did see Student Bodies at the drive-in, so…

believe me, I’ve tried to watch It’s a wonderful life, but it’s been a comedy of errors trying to accomplish that. I love me some Jimmy Stewart

I’m actually going to watch more Jess Franco.  His films are like addictive drugs to me.  Interestingly, he’s the only filmmaker that I can say that I’ve seen only about fifty or sixty of his films, roughly a quarter of his filmography.

I’m also going to dig up a bunch of those Hammer films on dvd.  A lot have been released on dvd and many are fairly cheap.  I love the Hammer flicks.  Late.

I can see where people would not like Eraserhead, but if you like Lynch it’s a definite must.

Apocalypto blows. I’d say don’t waste your time. It is his best movie. Of course I haven’t seen his lets beat up Jesus movie, cause why would I.

Last sentence sounds like a podcast sir. Can’t wait!

Hans: I’m pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to Franco and Hammer stuff. That should be on my to do list. Once I decide to dip into the Franco stuff, I’ll have to get a road map from you as some of his stuff is an acquired taste to say the least.

Doc: I can’t wait for you to see Eraserhead and Apocalypto. They are two excellent films. Apocalypto is one of my favorites from this decade as a matter of fact.

Shemp: Gibson is an incredible film maker. Apocalypto is a first class film. I cannot believe how many amazing films you dislike. I guess that is the beauty of film; as with all art, it is very subjective.Even if you’re HOPELESSLY wrong about Apocalypto ;)

Sir Croc: that’s a pretty good list you have there as well. I also haven’t seen Gone with the wind, and it narrowly missed my list. As for genre stuff, I’m sure you are more knowledgeable than you give yourself credit for. What genre related stuff do you dig? horror? spaghetti westerns? blaxploitation? euro-crime? kung-fu?. If there’s a genre/sub-genre you want some direction with, I’d be happy to help you or at least put out a request with the Midnite Social Club for some answers.

are you a sucker for those types of films from the 70’s? give me some examples of the crime stuff you like. I’ll guide you as best I can.. As for Revenge films.. Have you seen Rolling Thunder? We covered it in our first episode; I really dig it. If you can’t track it down, let me know.. Actually, I’ll push one of my favorite films from this year that no one talks about: Shotguns Stories. It’s got Michael Shannon in one of my favorite performances of the year. It’s basically a southern fried arthousey revenge film. I LOVED it. It made my top 5 this year for sure. Are you very familiar with Euro Crime?
