Im really not into horror, but more into the wierd obscure stuff. So my cinematic resolution will be to watch the exorcist, halloween .. yeah pretty much all of the classics.

As for my classics list i have these movies high on the todo list:

Kwaidan
Lawrence of Arabia
Spartacus
Viridiana
Sansho the Bailiff
King Kong
Godzilla (original)

I don’t have any specifics in mind, I just feel like I need to go out of my way to watch more movies and widen my perspective a little. A lot of the time I feel like the podcasts I listen to are way out of my league.

That’s exactly why I listen to some of the podcasts I do!  To broaden my mind, which is fairly broadened (is that a word?).

Here is my list. I shortened it quite a bit at the tail end of ‘08.
Here are the ones that I am ashamed I haven’t seen:

battle royale
friday the 13th
martin
barbarella
eraserhead
2001
psycho
blade runner

And not so ashamed:

the hunger
the signal
teeth
witchfinder general

Also, 2008 brought with it my deepening obsession for rape/revenge films. Any suggestions from my ever so knowledgeable pals??

That’s very true.

Christine: I’d say Ms.45, Lady Snowblood are great ones. hmm.. Savage Streets… I dunno. I’ll have to give it more thought. I’m presuming you’ve seen the staples of I spit on your grave and Last house and the Night train murders? You have yet to see some of my all time favorite films(Battle Royale and Blade Runner) As for Teeth and The Signal, I HATED Teeth(but I seem to be in the minority). Sammy and I both hated the Signal as well.. I also need to see Witchfinder General. I have already completed one of my films for my new year’s resolution. I watched Andrzej Zulawski’s arthouse horror film Possession. I cannot recommend this film highly enough. It’s sort of like a mix Argento/Lynch/Kubrick and others. I am still trying to wrap my head around it. I will say this: it’s really not for everyone. It’s a film that challenges you and gives you almost no straight answers. It is a technical marvel though and features first class performances from Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill. It is about a couple and the absolute failure of their marriage on the surface

Christine, there’s an alright British rape/revenge flick called Straightheads, released in North American on DVD under the title Closure . It stars Gillian Anderson of all people.

Christine: I dont remember any rape, but Sex and Fury is a great revenge flick with a ton of sex in it. Also it has one of my favorite sword fight scenes ever in it…Cinema Diabolica covered it waaay back in the day and you would more than likely enjoy it. And Teeth is kind of a Rape/Revenge film now that I think about it…and I did like that film for it’s quirky subject matter. And because I can relate to having teeth in my vag too…I go through a ton of undies.

Thanks for the suggestions! My queue has been updated. Savage Streets looks like a fun romp. Yay Linda Blair!

I started to watch The cabinet of Dr.Caligari at 3am the other night. Bad move. I fell asleep 5 minutes in. I will not be watching silent film after midnight, unless I’m wide awake

Caligari is beautiful, but there’s a huge catch: it really has to be watched with the lights off. When you’re tired, it’s near impossible to get through. I feel that way about most silent films. Of course, with that particularly movie, falling asleep seems almost appropriate

I’ll definitely be giving it as many goes as it takes as it’s on my list of cinematic resolutions for the year. I will also remember to keep the lights off as I watch it..

Now that I’ve joined the cult of Netflix and purchased four of the Mill Creek packs, my social life has plummeted and my movie viewing has skyrocketed. My priorities are in the right place, clearly.

Some random titles that had been on my list (many of which were podcast recommendations): Spider Baby (looooooooved it), Flesh + Blood, Frontier(s), In the Mouth of Madness, Severance, The Monster That Conquered the World, and a few others. It’s funny how I keep moving Citizen Kane down every time I hear about a new genre picture.
