I feel so validated :)

Shock 2 of the day: Ruggero Deodato directed The Barbarians. I had no idea. That discovery just totally improved my ho hum Tuesday.

Praise to chuckylove…that is a pretty awesome list and I do have a very soft spot for The Barbarians…I believe that has Richard Lynch and isnt it directed by Lenzi? I havent looked it up as I type this, but thats what my memory tells me ....I could be outta my mind…

Are you thinking of Lenzi’s Ironmaster Sammy?

To help you persuade Sammy, Matt, take a peek at this ferocious image of George Eastman, while Ms. Elvire Audray reminds us that cavepeople discovered hairspray and sun-tan oil prior to iron:

Oooooh but The Barbians have the Paul twins! That’s a whole lotta oil.

And take this synopsis from imdb, paying special note to how many times the phrase ‘belly stone’ is used:
” The young orphans Kutchek and Gore have been adopted by a tribe of clowns, jugglers, and entertainers. The tribe is led by the queen Canary and its wealth stems from her magical belly stone. The evil ruler Kadar desires Canary and her stone, and attacks her clan’s caravan to gain possession of them. Before the clan’s defeat one of the clansmen sneak away to hide the stone. Canary is locked up in Kadar’s harem, Kutchek and Gore in his quarry to be trained as gladiators, and the rest of the clan is to live as outlaws in the woods. When Kutchek and Gore have grown up to VERY big gladiators, they run away and break into Kadar’s harem with the aid of the young woman Lemone. Canary quests them to find “The Old King’s Weapons” and with these kill the dragon that guards the hidden belly stone. Afterwards they should find a new queen and give her the stone, to restore the tribe to its former glory.”

I’m surprised how many people haven’t seen Angel Heart.  I think it is ripe for covering.

ALSO…That reminds me of another Alan Parker film that might be good for the young one (if you can find it): Bugsy Malone. It’s even got a strong female character in Jodi Foster (maybe one of the first things she did after Taxi Driver, maybe before…dunno) and any violence in the film is whipped-cream related.

I think it’s available on Netflix, although there’s not technically an official release.
