So I got an email from Andy from The Hollywood Saloon the other day. This is big for me, because although Andy and I have been friends of a sort since I contacted him more than a year ago, he and his show have been a major influence on me as a podcaster (and a major source of new listeners…they’ve been good enough to support us in the last year or so). You wouldn’t know it from listening to our show, but THS made me want to get into this game just as much as any podcast out there (including Mondo Movie and NOTLP).

So it kills me a bit to tell you that The Hollywood Saloon is over with. The production of the shows were taking too long (months, in some cases—if you’ve heard the episodes you’ll know why) and the guys just didn’t have the time in their schedule anymore.

Sad that, but things aren’t over just yet. The email that I got from Andy mentioned a new show that he’s starting on his own called Apocalypse Hollywood (a name that should be familiar to fans of the old show). So all is not lost and what’s more, I’ve been invited to participate on the first episode.

So keep your ears and podcast feeds open. Presumably great things are on their way.

Be sure not to talk too much about TonyHex your first go around.

I don’t think Tony knows of your forceful pining. Does he?

The Hollywood Saloon is one of the best podcasts ever. Man, I listened to a crapload of episodes when I flew out to LA last summer. Good stuff. Sorry to see it go.

Their show on “The Art of Commentary” was the first thing I listened to and it got me hooked right away. There was nothing else being produced that matched the level of quality and care that those guys put into their show.

Has anyone heard their Halloween show? Fecking amazing stuff.

I agree, The Saloon set the bar for in depth, thorough podcasting on film and all that it encompasses. I’m glad you got the invite Miles, let us all know when their premier episode drops.

I wonder if you can tell the The Hollywood Saloon was a major influence on the Gents Guide?

I loved this podcast so much when I was getting into podcasts, it was just a great show….and to further their love of commentary tracks, they did a few for some films that were available strictly from their website…they were awesome commentary tracks, just fantastic….

Miles, I will admit that I am very jealous you get to be on the show…I hope to attain your level of awesomeness someday…and believe it or not, I am not being sarcastic…this is a real statement as ShowShow was a major influence on us as well…although the shows are different in structure than ours, we are intimidated by your knowledge of films sir….and I bow to thee….

...enough ass-kissing….

When is there going to be a popsyndicate convention? There should be one someday, it would be awesome to hang with some peers….
