Is rock and dance music making a big comeback, ending the Decade of Radio Catastrophe—the putrid ten year run of hip-hop?

I think so.

Things haven’t looked so good for rock and dance music since alternative imploded about 1995.  The latest tracks from My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, The Fray, OK Go, Snow Patrol, The Killers, The All American Rejects, and Evanescene are all great, IMO.  The latest dance tracks from Justin Timberlake and Christina Aquilera have also been pretty good.

And who would have thought that, of all the rock acts that grew to prominence during the 90’s, it would largely be left to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day to keep rock’s flag flying until now?

I’m sure we’ll be subjected to more of the Clear Channel/MTV insanity that causes mind-numbing retread acts like Mario Vazquez, Cassie, and the Pussycat Dolls to somehow get airtime, but I think the needle’s finally started to swing back to the rock side of things.

Speaking of Pussycat Doll(s), ever notice that only one of them is apparently capable of emitting sound?  At least everyone on NSYNC actually made noise, even if that was all they made.  The fact that some record exec thought they were a great idea is all the proof you’ll need as to why CD sales have been down.  Maybe they’ve finally started to react to people voting with their wallets.

The new RHCP album Stadium Arcadium is pretty addictive!  I myself am a big fan, so I knew I’d love it.  It has the perfect blend of their punky/funky 80s/90s stuff with their up-to-date “By the Way” sound.

Muy bueno.  Me gusta mucho.
