I read this week that ShoutFactory is putting out The Middleman on DVD (it’s quite excellent and if you didn’t see it, you should check it out when it comes out) and - a show I never thought I’d see again: Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.

Now I feel old.

There’s a podcast I listen to called Geek Radio Daily and one of their sayings USED to be “Until Parker Lewia can’t lose” comes out on dvd, make mines GRD.” Something like that anyway. Yea…I feel old too.

Time capsule is exactly the right word. It looks like old episodes of 90210.

Speaking of which, I was at a bar a few nights ago and in the ladies’ loo there was a poster advertising the new series (must’ve been left over from the summer campaign) featuring a chick with a zebra swimsuit and a leopard print headband! (worn like she’d just busted out of Jazzercise class)

New time capsules are being made all the time.

I know that this thread is sort of meant to talk about all the stuff that we’re surprised to find on DVD, but lately I’ve been catching up with a few shows that I missed the first time around, and that’s what I want to talk about. So there.

Battlestar Galactica: Yes, the finale got me to take a look at the series. Everyone in geekdom seems to love this show, and although I’m only 7 episodes in (I’m counting the 4-hour miniseries as a single episode) I can see how this would blossom into the sci-fi heroin that everyone claims it to be. My only complaint: I keep waiting for Edward James Olmos to shout, “it’s too bad she won’t live, but then again…who does?”

Cowboy Bebop: I’m taking my anime immersion project seriously, so I decided to follow the example of the A.V. Club and add a tv series into the regiment. Shockingly, this show most reminds me of a proto-Firefly, with scoundrely space people running guns and talking cool, sometimes pausing to contemplate the cosmos as they drift by. And for those of you sick of Joss’ musical stylings, this show might be for you. The theme song is so good that I’ve listened to it in my car since finishing the first disc of the series, which A) made me drive faster—it’s that good—and that is B) something I almost never do.

So what are you guys catching up with right now?

The Real Ghostbusters is coming out on Tuesday in a 5-disc set of the first thirty episodes.  Admittedly, hearing David Coulier voicing Venkman (Bill Murray’s original role) would be completely nostalgic.  My younger Brother and I just had a convo about this series, and he wondered why they were the “real” Ghostbusters.  I told him about the other animated Ghostbusters series, which he never knew about, but I wouldn’t mind perusing those either.  In fact, I’d be up for revisiting Ren & Stimpy again (Lost Episodes included).  Geek out.  Late.

Interesting development - I’m going to have to throw that in my Amazon cart. My nephews are totally in love with Ghostbusters so I think they’d go nutty for the cartoon.

I just picked up Boomtown season one on DVD.  I always thought this was better than average and was an interesting concept for a cop show, showing the same crime from different people’s point of view.  I can see where this concept would get stale after a while, but for one season it was a good show.

I also picked up the Pretender seasons one and two for my wife who loves that show for reasons unknown.

Boomtown was intriguing as I recall. Some good performances…

We’re picking up Andy Richter Controls the Universe and The Middleman which should come out in the next week or so. We might have to do a special on Andy now that Better Off Ted has been picked up for Season 2.
