Sammy,
after your mention of Gary Busey love in THE RAGE trailer, I had to check it out. Looks crazy! Lamas in rare form plus Scheider! Directed by Sidney J. Furie. He’s one heck of an interesting director. Credits including APPALOOSA(with the Saxon), THE ENTITY, IRON EAGLE(plus IRON EAGLE 2 and 4), the horrible SUPERMAN IV, and one of my all time favorite spy thrillers THE IPCRESS FILE. Oh and also HIT! with Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor(which has one of the great video box covers featuring Dee Williams and a bazooka). Anyway, that trailer looks pretty amazing! Busey is off the hook nutty! There’s also one line in it where I was like WTF? It starts with “Trademark item in ...” that’s all I’ll say. Pretty funny. Looking forward to a Gentlemenly review…

I’m looking forward to all of those. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on “Without Warning”. I just watched that one last month sometime. And “Road House”... f**k yeah.

I’m amazed. Am I seriously the only one who did not hate Youth Without Youth? Granted, I only saw it once when it came out, and my memory of it is extremely spotty by now, but what I remember is all extremely positive. I understand it’s confusing, doesn’t make much sense at times, but I feel reason is only important in films that make a point of following its constraints, if that makes any sense… Look at David Lynch, for crying out loud! I think it had some very real conflict, and the main character was really interesting. And it’s hard for me not to love a collaboration between Coppola and Roth. Granted, it’s been a long time since I’ve watched it, but I really see no reason to trash it this severely. Sure, It doesn’t compare to Apocalypse Now, but the comparison game is something all artists suffer from that I feel we as the audience ought to let up from occasionally. Is the problem perhaps that we are looking from the framework of genre cinema - where Youth Without Youth clearly does not belong?
Besides this, looks like there are some great shows lined up! I’m still woefully behind on the podcasts (I’m still on episode 14) but I’m catching up as quickly as I can, and I can’t wait to hear the reviews for some of these.
