Hey gang, in speaking to my man Hans, he thought it might be a good idea to get more activity on the boards to have this kind of a thread; basically, we want any newcomers(last 6 months or so) to tell us where they are in the world(much like Carmen S) and what their top 10 films are.. We’re going to draw the next listener content episode from the people that post here..
I’m in Los Angeles, (actually closer to Thousand Oaks), CA.

-Cloak & Dagger(‘84)
-Three O’Clock High
-Straight Time
so many more, its just painful to even make that list cause I’m leaving so many out…I much prefer to break down my favorites into sub categories of movies…
For me, my criterion is partly inspired by the Filmspotting guys. Basically, if aliens come down to earth and destroy all the movies ever made, and these motherfuckers allow you to save only 10 films for the whole world. Cinema history is now up to you, your children would only have these 10 films to watch and to understand about world cinema, history of cinema from the beginning until 2009. Ten movies baby, no honorable mentions bullshit. This list is hard to make, yes, but with great power comes great responsibility. Either you choose the ones that you can watch endlessly or you choose the ones that have significant meaning to history, to society… whatever. Now, with that in mind. Here’s my Top Ten List
1. The Godfather (Part I and II) : I cheat-These aliens are dumb, they don’t know shit about Trilogy or Part I,II stuffs like that. Save the world one more masterpiece.
2. Seven Samurai : To call it the best action movie ever made might be an insult. This IS the best movie ever made.
3. Pulp Fiction: the definitive film of the 1990s.Have to save this one for my kid.
4. Raging Bull: the best film of the best director working today. This one have some best acting I’ve ever seen.
5. Rear Windows: If you have to have one Hitchcock movie , this is the one. And could I live with myself if the next generation will never have a chance to watch Grace Kelly, because of me? No !!!
6. Apocalypse Now: War is ugly, but sometimes people are uglier. Have some lesson to teach my son. And Btw it’s partly about Vietnam, my country. So this is understandable.
7. Glengarry Glen Ross: Now this might be a surprise to some of you, but come on, is there an ensemble cast that’s better than this. Every moment of this under-appreciated masterpiece is worth quoting. If any goddamn alien comes near me, I’m gonna turn Al Pacino on : ” You smurfin’ smurfin. Who ever told you that you could work with men? “
8. The Good the Bad the Ugly : The title says it all
9. Kill Bil (Vol 1 and 2 ) This one I keep for myself. I can watch this nonstop. Always enjoyable.
10. Now , this one might be a little tricky. I might choose an animated film, like Grave of the Fireflies but I don’t want my children to cry, I might add Tokyo Story in there to teach them about humanity and family stuffs like that, but I decided my No 1 should be Citizen Kane. I have watched it 2 times now: The first time, this movie is a piece of shit, I thought. Second time: admired the camera work and the acting. It surely grows on me day by day, the more films I watch, the more I understand it greatness. So it has to be saved because there’s still so much about this film that I’m sure can learn from.
That’s my top 10. Now Big Willy, are you ready to review Kill Bill 2 now ? :—)
the question, Sir Croc, is this: Is your bladder ready for more epic Q.T talk? haha.. we’ll see.. I’m sure at some point we’ll get to it. I’ve decided to post my 10 favorite films(as I love lists), not to say these are the 10 I’d choose to save, as they’re not a great representation of all film, they’re just my favorites.
1.Kill Bill
2.Pulp Fiction
3.The Warriors
4.The Godfather 1&2(I also cheated)
5.The Last Dragon
6.A Clockwork Orange
7.Oldboy

I’m being totally serious when I say that this list is easily one of the most interesting Top 10’s I have seen in quite some time….
Thanks Sammy, you are obviously a man of taste too. My top 10 is a bit standard but they are all movies i love. Star Wars and Empire could quite easily swap places from day to day. I saw Star Wars first and i love the old school grimy look of it, but Empire obviously had a bigger budget and has Yoda ha ha. There are some amazing top 10’s here!
