Favorites, followed by honorable mentions

Rally/Romp movie: Gumball Rally
Cannonball Run(s) (RIP Dom DeLouise), Smokey & the Bandit(s), All those Roger Corman Richard Cunningham movies, Midnight Madness (a stretch I know)

Killer Cars: Christine
Death Race 2000

Trucker: Duel
The Sorcerer

Post-apocalyptic: Road Warrior

Kids & Cars: American Graffiti (I know its cliche, but I’ll fight you over it)
Corvette Summer

Shine Runnin’ film: Thunder Road
Moonshine Highway (at least Kyle McGlaughlin was better here than in Showgirls)

“On the Run” movie: Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
Vanishing Point, The Getaway

Car Heist movie: Gone in 60 Seconds (the original)
Gone in 60 Seconds remake (what can I say, seeing car movies in the theater is slim pickings)

Favorite Road Movie: 2-Lane Blacktop (beats the hell out of Easy Rider)

WTF movie: Roadracers

Documentaries: Wheels of Fire
Mad Fabricators Series

Drifiting Videos (don’t judge me): Hashiriya
Yokohama Street Drift, Hyper Street Racing: Type B

I’ll post more later, I have to get to work.

Off topic: It was nice to meet most of the Movie Meltdown crew at Beatersville. Your pitch was good enough to check out the Hot Rod Girl episode, so now I’m hooked and playing catch up. Everything so far is pure gold. Now the first time I visit your forum you have a question I actually care about. I hope it was worth sweating in a parking lot all day for you too.

How can you go wrong with Pixar’s Cars. This movie was so awesome that an entire generation of kids has stopped playing with their battery powered toys and games and are using their imaginations with slightly larger than Hot Wheels versions. I’d say that in 20 years there are going to be a ton of new, young car enthusiasts that credit Pixar with planting the seeds of their love.  If Fanboys is a love letter to Star Wars then Cars is a love letter to, well, cars.

How about The French (smurfin) Connection-awesome as hell! Don’t drive after watching this movie because you’ll be so pumped you’ll drive through a smurfin brick wall.

Gone is 60 Seconds - both versions (new one mostly for the cars)

Cannonball Run. Just try not to have fun watching this movie.

Death Proof has a Challenger and a Charger.  But I really can’t get past the fact that I couldn’t stop yelling at the chick to just get off the smurfin hood. Is it really so hard to hit the breaks when Stuntman Mike is going ninety, by the time he’d realize what was going on you could hop in the car and turn around.

Though cheesy, I always like the race scene in Grease.

I’m sure I have more, just couldn’t think of ‘em.

smurfin, smurfin, smurfin…Yep, the filter works.
