The show’s pretty great so far, as per usual. I’m glad you guys are covering Sleepaway Camp! It’s my all-time favorite slasher by a long shot. I love everything about it. Although it is unintentionally hilarious (and downright bizarre) at times, I still think it’s a very well-constructed story with some incredible death scenes.

I’m an hour into the show:

- I like Rumer Willis, Sorority Row looks entertaining.

- Obama = Buckaroo Banzai. Does he really need to be in numerous comic books? Really?

- Twitter = Lame

- I assume that Freddy, Andy, Kelley and Amy are all super-hot to be making fun of this “butterface”-d, saggy-boobed actress. I for one wish there were more ‘normal-looking’ people in movies.

I was totally anti-Twitter too until I finally succumbed to the pressure and registered an account. It’s actually very helpful for keeping in touch with our Pop Syndicate brethren. If only you and Kelley would conform…

I refuse to. I have a blog, email and the mail (remember that…?) to keep in contact with people.

Sorry man, it’s just not in the cards.  I wouldn’t call myself a hermit or a recluse but I am probably the most reclusive of the group.  It’s nothing against anyone on the boards I’m just not really into keeping that much in contact with people all the time.  I also don’t use my cellphone very much and this is the only forum or message-board I’m a part of.  I don’t have a myspace or a facebook.  But Blair is on Twitter now.  So that’s almost like me being on Twitter.  She is my better half.

I don’t go on twitter ‘cause I don’t want to make time for another thing which is (frankly)...a waste of time.

I’d rather watch movies or chat on here.

In Twitter’s defense, there is a 140 character limit. Takes about thirty seconds to post something. I can afford to waste a few minutes a day on there.

Anyway, back on topic. I’m sorry you guys didn’t like Sleepaway Camp all that much, although I can see how you could be turned off by it if you don’t know what you’re getting into. The ending creeped the shit right out of me, though. Not the twist, I already knew what the twist was, but that f**king face. I wasn’t expecting to be freaked out at that point in the movie, so the tone of the ending came as a surprise. It was very eerie.

I understand it’s not technically a good movie, but I thought it was just so much fun to watch. I thought you guys would get more of a kick out of it.

I really liked it for the snark factor and the death scenes, the curling iron scene alone is worth it.Who curls their hair before bed though?
It’s awesome in movies when rotten people get their comeuppance and boy did they ever.
But you are right about the end. While I knew it was coming,it was still eerie. The face(well both faces)was creepy as hell.

I’ll have to go listen to this one asap.  Sleepaway Camp’s an odd duck for me, because I have to watch it on multiple levels. On one level, I can appreciate it for what it is/was:  a cash-in slasher pic of the 80’s where the filmmakers had an idea for an ingenious twist and marketing campaign for the time that was sure to draw people to the theaters to see it.  From another perspective, though, I have a hard time accepting the messages in the film, and don’t like a lot of the implications this film makes, as well as the sequels.  This was one of the first films I tackled over at my blog because it’s such an icon.  Ironically, some of my friends see it differently than I do and call it an “empowerment” film.  I don’t see it, but hey, okay.  *lol*

Don’t wanna say any more than that until I listen to the ep, though - gotta hear the gang’s thoughts on it first.

I too am sorry you guys weren’t more into Sleepaway Camp. It’s one of my favorites. It’s just so…..odd. I even made it my Halloween costume last year. I hope you’ll give II and III a try someday. In my opinion, those are two of the best party movies ever made.

Here’s the thing about Sleepaway Camp for me…I sort of can’t get it out of my head…it’s weird because I stand by my comment that it’s an awful movie but there is something so weird about it…the very fact of it’s poor production quality snf it’s bad actors added to it’s grotesquerie…it’s sticking with me.  The raging pedophilial camp cook and the maybe mentally retarded cooks assistant who just laughed when the cook was talking about “baldies”—yeegh!  That final scene is so outrageously creepy…I’m not sure I like this movie but I appreciate this movie…Even Aunt Martha with her extreme mannerisms and freaky pale makeup…it’s like this movie was made by the patients at a mental hospital as part of their therapy.  As an eighties teen slasher it had a bit more going on than most.  I don’t know that I care enough to see the sequels but I definitely didn’t hate it and in the end I wasn’t bored with it.  I’ll put it above something like say, “Crazy as Hell”, which had name actors and great production but was so “blah” whereas SC, while not a “good” movie has managed to hold onto my imagination.  So I think overall I had a positive reaction to Sleepaway Camp, especially as opposed to other slashers which I typically find dull.

Fair enough. It’s not for everyone, even among us horrorphiles.

I’m sorry man, I think you misunderstood me…it’s a bad movie but I liked it.  It affected me which is what good horror should do and somehow these people managed somehow to slap together some effective horror.  No man, I liked it.  Despite all of it’s faults it really made me kinda squirm.

Ah, I see. Sorry. I’m kind of dumb sometimes.
