And I will NEVER watch ‘Night of the Living Dead’. Ever.
Why? You don’t like “old” movies, we get that, but it’s a classic for a reason. I’m not trying to put you down or anything, I’m genuinely curious.
Well…why would I want to?
I know I’ll find it drawn-out and boring, plus it’s black and white. And I hate slow zombies…
As I said earlier, I realize that I sound like an obnoxious teeny bopper but when I started reading, for instance, I had no interest in Pride and Prejudice, Charles Dickens, Of Mice and Men or What Katy Did - I wanted what came out today. I want to know what people are saying now, not what they were saying decades ago.
I have to say that this is what I have done for a while now - I haven’t seen a remake for a couple of years that I didn’t see on TV or someone else’s DVD. I guess they still get some money if I do that, but it’s not my money.
I feel like we’re all getting a little angry with each other over here! Don’t get angry, get annoyed (like me) and just grumble a little. Unfortunately the big boss film execs won’t and don’t listen to us and want to make money which is what they do after all.
I say that, but if you read the article on The Birds you could think that it was the b**ching on the internet that factored in to their decision.
Uh, nobody is forcing you (whiny) lot to watch these films…if you have no interest in the remake:
Don’t. Watch. It.
I can’t stand remakes of classic films because 9 times out of 10, they end up sucking, and thus taint the original’s legacy. I remember recommending both The Wicker Man and Halloween to my friend’s nephew as good horror films to watch, but he wasn’t interested because he’d seen both remakes, and hated them.
One of my top fave horror movies ever and by far my absolute fave Werewolf flick. I shudder at a remake of it. Saddens me even, but I WILL be first in line! Basically Ditto for The Birds.
The problem with these remakes is that in 20 years times people will say “have you seen Halloween?” and it’ll be assumed that they’re talking about the shitty remake, pushing the original into further obscurity. While with Halloween it won’t be as much of an issue, what about films like Black Christmas and Wicker Man? As for the excuse that “they’re updating the story to appeal to a younger / hipper crowd who can’t tolerate the pace / look of the old movies”, well then they should just stick to watching Transformers and 7 fast 7 furious. Art is not a democracy where everything has to appeal to everyone, but a level of respect should be upheld for existing pieces, especially if they mean a lot to people. Its like taking down the Mona Lisa and putting up a hi-def computer generated image of her, thinner and sexier than ever.
Don’t you DARE trash-talk the Black Christmas remake, for some odd reason it’s one of my favorite films. And the original is boring as hell & technically inept.

I thought the remake was enjoyable in its own right, but it was still kind of a mess. The original is definitely the superior film. It holds up wonderfully. I didn’t find it boring in the slightest.
I don’t know, I adore the remake. And I saw the original after, and with all the horror fans saying the remake was awful compared to the original..I expected more, it disappointed me. And it was SO boring, none of the kills were particularly interesting & the story had too many divergent points to establish any tension.
- The Dad turned up out of nowhere, impedes the story
- The rubbish ‘humorous’ moments at the police station
- The pregnancy aspect/ The creepy boyfriend
- The disappearance of two girls who later show up
I just felt as though they didn’t stick with the inherent story enough, they diverged into two many plot threads that were never tied up whereas the remake kept most of the story in the house (apart from the flashbacks & the absurdist ending).
