Great job guys - creepy/awesome music Kelley, I loved it. I’ve been listening to a lot of short stories in podcast form, but I think you guys did a much better job because you have a “cast” and it gives the story depth when read out loud. I’d love to hear you guys do more.

I agree, it was a really effective approach. I’m a huge fan of the old-school sci-fi/horror radio dramas.
What a cool surprise after coming back from my self-imposed internet vacation over the holiday weekend. Great atmosphere, acting, and music. A nice intro for me to Lovecraft’s stories. I’m going to have to stop at the library on the way home and pick something up.
It brought back great memories of the short Halloween radio dramas the little town I grew up in used to do, and of the more recent Tales from the Crypt audio shows. Thanks for this, NOTLP crew—awesome work!
I’m so glad you all like it, AND it looks like we’ve brought in some new listeners. Welcome to you Newbies and thanks for the great feedback. Kelley and Freddy worked super hard on getting it together.
I’m glad to see it inspire some people to go pick up Lovecraft and check him out. It’s good stuff. And thanks for all the compliments on the music, you know how I love to hear that stuff : P
Awesome job, everyone. This was actually my first introduction to an H.P. Lovecraft story (other than the various film versions of his stories), so thank you!
First I saw the download and was all “WTF?” What are they up to now?
Then I listened to the first 30 seconds of it and started bouncing and squeeing.
Then I listened to the whole thing and felt justified in bouncing and squeeing.
I will reiterate what I said from my tweet - Chiz was totally awesome in this. But now that I’ve heard all of it, I have to say EVERYONE was awesome. Especially Chiz and Kelley and the music and Freddy and and..
Oh, and I’ve got actually working non-sucky broadband now so I can do things like read the forums again and not have it be painful. Ahh the benefits of moving away from BFE. So I’m baaaaaaack. >)

Welcome back :-)
I love it when Kelley puts on a voice when doing a review (my fav is probably when he did the review of Swamp Thing), but the voice he used in this was creepy as hell. Nice one Kelley.

Thanks! Yeah, Pickman’s voice came out fully formed the second I started reading the script. What’s funny is, before Chiz recorded the part of Eliot, I did a recording of that part for Freddy to play off of just as a placeholder till Mike read his and my Eliot sounded like a mentally challenged person. I didn’t play it that way on purpose, that’s just how it came out—a mentally challenged male Julia Child. Mike did such a great job I was very relieved.
I got a chance to listen to this today, and i really liked it. At first i had a little trouble getting into it because when i hear Freddy or Chiz its usually followed by laughter, but after a few minutes i was fine. The music was rad and the way it kinda plodded along helped achieve that old timely feel. Acting wise it was great, Chiz especially.
I was fully prepared to listen to my NOTLP while braving Walmart. Once I started the podcast, I realized it wasn’t for Walmart shopping. I’m glad I saved it for later. This was my first Lovecraft experience(besides movies) and I loved it. Thanks! Please do more. Maybe Stephen King’s The Jaunt? It’s not from Night Shift, but it did creep me out.
I do have some slightly bad news about future adaptations. It looks like Stephen King may be out. I emailed his “people” (I’m sure some intern at stephenking.com) about the “dollar baby” rights to his stories that are available for that. I was told that, because it is in audio format and for web distribution it there would be issues with it I guess cutting into his other audio stuff that’s out there and all bought and paid for, rights-wise. So, I could take a chance at a cease and desist and still adapt one of them, rights free and liable, (and by the way the Jaunt WOULD be great for that) OR I can not. For now I’ll probably not and we’ll go through our anthologies looking for good (I PROMISE only good) stories that are most likely public domain or so obscure that it won’t matter anyway. I really wanted to try my hand at adapting Stephen King though. After all, I AM his number one fan…mwuah mwuah mwuahhhh…but no, he is my one of my heroes so…*sighs* ah well.
