So, a month or so ago we started a new contest to kick off our new running series - “Video Boxes that Warped my Brain!”
Now we’ve been talking about this set of circumstances amongst the group since we started the show. And I know, I’ve had this lurking in my brain since I was a kid. And I’m sure a lot of you out there, fell into the same situation.
Now as a kid, I spent A LOT of time in video stores. Just looking through movies or waiting around for the new releases to come back. You remember that? Did anyone else do that? In this day and age of Netflix and download torrents, this situation is quickly dieing. So we’re going to pay tribute to it in this new feature.
So basically, in all that time that some of us spent hanging around the video store, you start to see the same covers of video boxes over and over again. And they sort attach themselves to your brain, especially if you were young and impressionable. I know there were certain boxes that I saw every trip in, and some were really weird, some were gross, some were funny. But just seeing them so much - they were burned into your memory. I know several times now, Jay and I have been reminesing about and old 80’s “classic” and the other will yell out “I remember that box!”
And it’s funny, because some of the ones I remember most, were movies I never even bothered to watch! So one of the features of this part of the show is we’re going to tie it into what we watch. We’ll tell you some of our favorites and then maybe go back and watch some of them. And then, we are opening this up to EVERYONE. We want to hear old video boxes that you really remember. They might have had some scarring effect on you, but it doesn’t have to be a negative story. Just stories of movie art that you really became obessed with or attached to. And I did say “movie art”, which means, I’m not going to get real technical. If it was a one-sheet at the local theater - that works too. Those were just less likely, because they change out so often. And it’s not just for old people that remember VHS. If you grew up renting DVD’s, that works too! Just tell us your odd stories about you and movies.
So this is open to everyone. We prefer voicemails, but e-mails are welcome too! We want good stories, but let’s keep it under control time-wise. Voice Mails keep around 3 or 4 minutes at most, e-mails (since we don’t like to read…), try to tell your tale in a few paragraphs. So get your picks in, and we’ll go through them, probably read or play them on the show - and then we’ll pick one or two of our favorites and send you a movie geek prize pack! And I’m probably going to set-up a page on the site and try to find the old covers so people can see the VIDEO BOXES THAT WARPED MY BRAIN!
NOW IF YOU WANT TO BE ENTERED IN THE CONTEST - YOU HAVE TO E-MAIL US THE ENTRY OR CALL AND LEAVE YOUR STORY ON OUR VOICEMAIL. Posting on these forums, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace or anywhere else WILL NOT BE ELIGABLE! We just need them all going to one place so we can keep it organized. So e-mail your stories to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call and leave a voicemail at: (502) 365-5565.
We’re really looking forward to hearing about the movies that messed up your minds. So get us your stories…
