Someone on my LiveJournal corrected me on the proper spelling of this non word.  I think I’m right, simply because I’m perfect in every way.  But he thinks he’s right because he’s a big hick.

What’s your take?

I have no idea how you’ve spelled it on your LJ, but based on Mozilla Firefox’s spell check, “y’all” is the correct way. I have both the UK and US English spell checks on my computer and that’s what the program said. If you’re wrong...opps?

smurfin LJ. It’s ya’ll.

Yes, technically it’s you all (dumb). But, as we pronounce it properly here in the south, the long ah of all properly belongs with the “y”. It indicates pronounciation.

It’s ya’ll, ya’ll.

It’s y’all.  It’s a contraction for “you all.”
