So in the most recent issue, Solomon Grundy rips off Red Tornado’s arm, then EATS it.  I could have done without seeing that.

Is DC is going through some sort of “bad guy eating other guy” spree? With people getting ripped in half, eaten alive and now this…uhh, hot damn, that a lot of fantasy violence.

To me it’s like a poor attempt to balance things out. With all of the Silver Age elements being brought back into the fold, maybe they’ve amped up the violence to drive home the fact that current continuity is a mix of the fun, campy past with the dark, “realistic” present. The death of the mother and child in JSA #3 was particularly difficult to watch. And then a couple of pages later I was giddy over the new Sandman thing. >Shrug<

I’m kind of enjoying Meltzer’s run so far.  It feels a little disjointed, and maybe that’s because of the whole “team coming together” thing.  And, despite the wonderful scene of everyone working together to bring down Amazo, it still doesn’t feel like a team.  I’m sure everything will gel at some point, and I’m looking forward to some interaction that doesn’t involve figuring out what’s wrong with Red Tornado or Vixen sniffing her way through the skies.  I think the choices for the team are interesting, and it’s a completely bizarre mix of characters, which I love.  And Brad, please don’t spend too much time on Red Tornado agonizing over what he’s lost.  Some great potential with RT.

Am with Corrykates here. I have enjoyed the beautiful artwork. The story has been ok. I really liked the Trinity’s evaluation of other heroes and the voting. I have never been one to be a Vixen fan but am liking her more and more. I think Stevie was right though this would have been better read as a trade. Am waiting for Alex Ross to finish JUSTICE (which I have been loving) to get an ABSOLUTE edition of that. That would be amazing.
