I have to say, as on the fence as I’ve been about Meltzer’s run, this one cemented it as a must read for me. One big squirt of DNA from beginning to end. Fave moments :
1. The Hall of Justice! Right the frak on!
2. “If he were sentimental, he would’ve given us the penny.”
3. “If you can’t stand the heat.”
4. “That’s a dangerous room.”
5. The 3 page fold-out centerfold! Awesome!
6. Next issue…
Just a total blast from start to finish. And lest this turn into a JLA wankfest, there were a few other titles that elicited gasps and squeals this week:
1. 52 - Renee finally wears the mask. Such a wonderful arc with this character, from self-loathing loser to self-confident badass. And I love DC even more for taking a traditionally male character and letting an Hispanic lesbian take it out for a spin. This is so much more important to me as a comic book queer than Batwoman. I got chills when she donned the mask (“Good question!”), and I want more. Now!
2. Flash #10 - If the rest of Guggenheim’s run is going to be this fun, sign me up now. Totally fun, taps into the legacy of the character without wallowing in it and making it inaccessible to new readers. And the last page? Fun!
