I’m no fan of Don Imus.  I think he’s an overrated blow hard but this is getting ridiculous.  Calling the women of Rutgers a bunch of “nappy headed ho’s” was stupid and insensitive but asking for the man to be fired is too much.

When you’ve got so-called black leaders like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson saying worse things about whites and Jews, I find it very hypocritical of them to chastise Imus.  Plus Imus has apologized over and over again.  He’s an idiot.  His apologies are more insulting then his initial remarks but it’s not like he’s malicious in his intent.  He’s a polarizing individual and when he does the very thing he’s getting paid to do everyone is shocked.

It’s ok for Sharpton to call Jews oily diamond merchants and Jessie was just misunderstood for calling Jew’s Himeys and New York City - Himeytown.

Would you call that reverse discrimination?  It will never ever be acceptable for Imus to say what he did just like what Michael Richards said.

I don’t think you can hold up Sharpton and Jackson to the same light.  For one thing—race card aside—they don’t have a huge audience on a show owned by General Electric.

The other problem is that he falls in the area of Ann Coulter; he needs to get attention and saying something vehemently offensive is the only way to do it.

Damn it, Ann Coulter is another idiot.  I wish people would quit listening to her.

What Michael Richards said and Don Imus said are two totally different things.  I’m not say either was right.  They are both horribly wrong.  I’m just tired of everyone being so polarizing over things that shouldn’t be.

Why shouldn’t we hold Sharpton and Jackson up to the same light as they hold others up to?  Sharpton has a popular radio show and Jackson makes tons of money off of corporate speaking engagements.  Both are way more influential in their communities then Imus or Richards could ever be.

There is no such thing as reverse racism. Racism is racism no matter who it’s coming from or who it’s aimed at.
Yeah the comments from Sharpton and Jackson were racist but no one has the balls to stand up and call them racists.
Wait… I do.
AL SHARPTON IS A RACIST AND MAKES DISPARAGING COMMENTS ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE AND JEWS.
HE IS NO BETTER THAN A MEMBER OF THE KLAN AND SHOULD BE STRUNG UP AND PELTED WITH ROCKS.

Dr.Thirteenenstein the polarizing conservative ... out.

‘Cause they’re black… DUH!  And they’re right too!  It’s like you’re new to this world or something.

You’re not Jewish are you?

All kidding aside, Jackson and Sharpton will always be given that kind of latitude whether it’s right or not.

Das ist bullshite.

Equality means equal standards.  I am not for censorship at all, I just can’t stand double standards.

You think equality is going to be achieved by calling Sharpton on his racial remarks? Or does it make more sense to throw up flares about him in the blogosphere to change the subject from Imus.  Nobody ever paid two cents to Sharpton and Jackson outside of their own community (who have taken umbrage to their leadership regarding remarks) until Imus appeared on Sharptons show.

any time any white dude runs afoul of the PC left they appear with sharpton or jackson or both.
Listen to Bill Burr’s bit about “The Podium”

and really this has nothing to do SPECIFICALLY with Sharpton or Jackson. It has everything to do with the fact that Don Imus cracks a joke about Nappy Headed Ho’s and gets prostrated but Dave Chappelle can rant about Honkey Cracker nigger whatever else for 30 minutes a week and is celebrated.

It’s uneven and I invite anyone to try and spin that.

I’m more than willing to read this “podium”  But a quick search for Imus at Media Matter’s sight should spell out his past remarks very clearly.

Dave Chappelle?  Your logic is effed.  Come on.  Dave Chappelle’s stand up doesn’t give Imus carte blanche for his reputable racism and homophobia.  There is a fundamental aspect to minority culture that you are either ignoring or don’t understand.

[head explodes]

If you haven’t noticed my name is Felipe. I am not white, I come from an impoverished family from Brooklyn. If there’s ONE thing I know it’s hood politics.
I am not ignoring anything, what you are ignoring is that there is an indisputable disparity between for instance the damnation of Guns & Roses for saying “Police and niggers Get out of my way” and the complete ignoring of Wu-Tang Clan saying “snatch a devil up by his hair and cut his head off”
Does “Nigger” carry more weight than “Devil” ? TONS more, more than Cracker, Honkey and Devil Combined in fact. Does that make it okay? In my eyes no.

Accountability has to enter our culture SOME time and what I’m saying is that if you live in a glass house you best put those rocks away.
Making race an issue weather it be in the defense of damnation of someone ALWAYS does harm. I have a piece up at http://ask13.blogspot.com that addresses affirmative action that explains this in more detail.

You’ll note that I didn’t mention Michael Richards. What he said was not an innocuous comment, he went on a tirade and the comment “we’d have had you upside down with a fork up your ass” betrays some serious dislike for black folks. That’s some hateful shit.

I’m not defending Imus cause smurfin Imus. I just think he was crucified by people (specific people, not black folks as a whole.) that aren’t innocent of the same thing themselves.

I love everyone.. I just can’t stand hypocrites.

What?  You’re not white?

I always found Opie to be an offensive name for white people.

Imus should be fired.

The line between politics and comedy are not blurred in this instance. Imus attacked a group of smart successful college aged women in basketball with a racial insult. There was nothing funny in one of his co-hosts calling them gigaboos later in the show either.

He should be fired. If he were to take on a political figure with a political voice on his political show and that is fine with me.

There is no humor in addressing non-political group without a voice in this manor.

If you’re going to point fingers at someone else like Jackson or Sharpton, then take them to task for a specific quote in that instance. We’re taking about Imus and his comments right now.

Does Dan Savage have the right to speak his mind in his column Savage Love?

Have you heard his podcast?  It’s really good.  But he calls people ‘stupid faggot’ all the time.  Is that ok just because he’s gay?
