Tom Cruise Goes From a Nazi to Comic Book Secret Agent
Tom Cruise is working with Sam Raimi to bring the Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips comic book “Sleeper” to the big screen. After being attached to Iron Man for years, Cruise passed and the role went to Robert Downey Jr. He’s decided to step once again into the comic book world with the adaption of the DC Comics/Wildstorm comic book that ran from 2003-05.
“Sleeper” is about a secret agent who is fused with an alien artifact that makes him impervious to pain and allows him to give that power away to anyone he touches. He is put undercover in an evil organization and falls for a villainess named Miss Misery.
Cruise made news last week when his long time partner, Paula Weinstein, resigned from United Artists. He is currently rumored to be attached to the Todd Phillips film “Men” and Shawn Levy’s “The Hardy Men” with Ben Stiller. His next film is the UA WWII film “Valkyrie,” where he’ll play the anti-Nazi Claus van Stauffenberg. You can currently see Cruise in the Ben Stiller film “Tropic Thunder”.
Warner Brothers is currently embroiled in a huge debacle with Fox over the release of “Watchmen”. With “Sleeper” being designed as a franchise, you can bet Warners will be making sure they cover their butts.
