D.J. Caruso Talk About Y: The Last Man Movie

In news that makes me both happy and sad, director D.J. Caruso spills the beans on his ideas for a Y: The Last Man movie.

Talking with Collider.com, director D.J. Caruso thinks he’s ‘cracked’ the Y: The Last Man script issues.  After praising the comics for being so incredible, D.J. offers up what will make the movies (that’s right movies) even better.  Instead of just working with the material at hand, he sees the story needing a ‘ticking clock’ idea to sell the story better.  In his script, Yorick gets separated from his pet monkey Ampersand for a short period and starts getting sick and must get his monkey back before he dies.  As for the Agent 355/Yorick relationship, Caruso refers back to the Deniro/Grodin film Midnight Run.  Eek!

Caruso looks like he’s ready to start shooting and has Shia LaBeouf lined up to star as Yorick.  He hopes to get it started in January and ready to go for a summer 2010 release.

Y: The Last Man follows the story of Yorick, the last man on Earth after a plague wipes out all the men in the world.  Guarded by Agent 355, Yorick travels to Australia to find the love of his life Beth.  The comic follows Yorick’s five year journey.  Who knows how closely the movie will be to the comic book.

Marc

Sounds like more comicbook disrespect.

While movies are more high-profile, Y:TLM really needs to be a TV series. The scope of the comic just can’t be crammed into two hours. This is one of the few comics of recent years that I’ve really hooked into, and this version doesn’t sound promising.
