The Best Capt. America News Yet

In a bit of rumor news that is something to get excited about, “Torchwood” star John Barrowman might be Captain America.

When asked at a recent San Diego ComiCon panel if he would be playing Capt. America in the upcoming film, the “Torchwood” star smiled and said he would love to play the part.  He lated admitted that his agents might have been working on that very thing.

After it was revealed that Marvel wanted to fast track the “Captain America” movie after the success of “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk”, a variety of names where thrown about with most people saying that Texan Matthew McConaughey is the top pick.  Most fans were distraught over the thought of the twangy McConaughey taking up the shield.  The thought of the “Dr. Who” alum donning the pirate boots and winged cowl should appeal to a much greater degree.

Barrowman lacks the star power but more than makes up for it with screen presence.  The First Avenger: Captain America is slated for a May 6, 2011 release.

The fans have blown this one out of proportion. According to the Doctor Who forums, Barrowman *did* admit that he’d love to play Cap, and that he’s looking at other work beyond Jack...but fans took those two separate comments and added 2 + 2 to make 5.

I know it’s just rumor but it’s a better rumor than McConaughey.  He’s a horrible choice.

Matthew McConaughey as Cap? He’d get laughed off the screen. I adore Barrowman, but he’s not really beefy enough for Cap. I think of Cap as being fairly huge, like Dolph Lundgren (not that I want Dolph to play Cap… *shudder*...); that’s more the physical type I think of).

If Marvel want to ruin every bit of good will and progress they’ve generated in the last two years, go ahead, cast Alright-Alright-Alright.
