Where the Wild Things Aren’t

What happened to the Spike Jones film version of the Maurice Sendack children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are”?

Remember the hype for the film version of Where the Wild Things Are?  Principle photography ended in 2006 and the film was initially set to release this year.  Then it got pushed back to 2009, now it’s off Warner Brothers’ schedule altogether.  The L.A. Times is reporting that due to poor testing and horrible creature effects, the film has been put into some kind of limbo as Jones tries to fix his mess.  The studio stands behind him still but if things go on for too long, you could see studio hands dipping into the project.

The attached footage is from a test that John Lasseter did for Disney shortly after Tron was released.  Can you imagine a pre-Pixar “Where the Wild Things Are”?
