Aliens, Predator, Pred-alien… massive amounts of bloodshed and a cheesy almost romance thrown in… who could ask for more?
I am a fan of the whole alien and predator theme in these movies. After the last one ended, I was curious to see what the ‘Pred-Alien’ would look like, and do. This movie starts out with an almost horror cheese feel. You have the troubled brother returning to his home town to visit his high-school age brother who happens to have a crush on the hot girl in school. Sigh. There is also the military mom returning home to her family, and the friendly small town cop to tie it all in. In the background to all of this there is the Predator ship that just happens to be flying by earth when the alien bursts out of his chest- crashing his ship into earth along with all the once contained face huggers in jars. Uh-oh- the aliens are loose on earth! And what’s this- an alien predator hybrid?! (tense music lead in)
Another predator, learning of his comrade, comes to earth to investigate and to right the wrongs. The following 45 minute’s is full of lots of bloodshed. We have the main characters- the troubled brothers, a military mom and her daughter, and a slew of other people banning together to try and stay alive. The aliens run rampant everywhere. The pred-alien can apparently lay its own eggs, preferably in females, which later turn into five plus aliens bursting out of the poor woman. The main predator gets into endless fights, but never really seems to win out until the end. And I would not really call that winning. The hopeless and hapless humans ban together and try one last glimmer of possible hope to get out alive. I won’t spoil it for you. The army is just oh so helpful to this small town who has gotten run over with beasties. They manage to take a souvenir. I won’t tell you what that is either. It might have to do with the other ones- alien conspiracy people beware.
All in all I loved it. It had a surprising amount of bloodshed, and I got too see everything I wanted to out of a Alien vs. Predator movie. I felt squeamish yet satisfied by the end. Are they going to make another one? It would not surprise me. And I will see that one, too.
Special features include an added footage marker, which identifies the extra footage from the theatrical edition while the movie is playing, as well as stills galleries, and a featurettes menue. I especially like the featurette about the making of the predalien.
