Spidergirl returns...but why?

Marvel brought Spidergirl up to issue #100, put out 2 covers and then ended the title. Why? So they could relaunch it as Amazing Spidergirl #0 and try to build on all of the hype. This is a character who is either loved or hated. She is Spider-Man’s daughter, but she doesn’t exist in the regular Marvel Universe. In her universe, Spidey is missing a leg, she was part of the Fantastic Five which included Franklin Richards, there are characters that are paradoxical to their counterparts or relatives in the regular universe and she’s a teen with a worse sense of humor than her dad.

This #0 issue isn’t in typical comic book form. It’s more of a journal as she retells her origin and gives some explanations for some of the other characters in her world. It’s filled with some great art, but it’s not really in a sequential art fashion since this first story doesn’t lend itself to that format. This may be interesting to women and teenagers. I really don’t see how many guys would get into this, but maybe it’s a way to get your favorite gal into reading comics so they will understand your addictive habit a little better.
