You might want to keep checking in on AppleGeeks: there is always something going on right now, something burning from before and something coming down the pipe.

AppleGeeks is a semi-manga comic with great special effects and cel shading. The style of art takes some tips from manga but is not reliant on the visual shortcuts that manga takes. The layouts have great variety and both the characters and speech balloons spring out of the panel borders. I also like the one-off illustrations, which are more on the dramatic side. There are occasional non-inked, uncolored pencil sketches which I find just as interesting as the rest of the inked and colored comics. You should see the drawing of the Batman Returns Batmobile.

The characters are real characters, if you know what I mean. Hawk is very unreserved and has a Mac fetish, even creating a robot girl based on the Mac OS X operating system. Her name is Eve and she’s something of a loose cannon. At first, she behaved very erratically robotic but now she’s much more human like. Of course, she is pretty traumatized by all she’s been through plus dealing with the realization that she’s not like anyone else. Hawk’s friend is named Jayce, a person with some dark secrets and whose father caused some trouble with Eve. There are a few other important characters that are all succinctly described on the cast page, excepting the squirrel. Always keep your eye on the squirrel.

As you can see, AppleGeeks has its moments of whimsy and drama. You have a robot girl, characters with flaws and a squirrel. Of course, that’s glossing over quite a bit that’s gone on over 400 some episodes.

The writing is well done. In addition to a well developing storyline, there are bits poking fun at comics, movies and tv. Note: Good, but disturbing point about Spiderman’s webshooting powers - you’ll want to read about that, I’m sure. Events are always well foreshadowed and the character dialogue is always appropriately toned and words carefully chosen. Another note: The Shadow Council was a very creative invention and I can see there is much yet to be accomplished by them. There is always something going on right now, something burning from before and something coming down the pipe.

There’s also AppleGeeks Lite, a black and white newspaper style strip. This show more typical day to day subjects but it is also true to the same vision you find in AppleGeeks. That’s a nice bonus to go with a fun comic, isn’t it?
