Blues, zydeco and a lot more.
Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix perform quite well on their new CD, As The Crow Flies. They jazz it up, slow it down with country, switch to boogie, slide into zydeco and then smooth it all out with the blues.
I was impressed with As The Crow Flies. There are 17 tracks on the album and each song carries it own depth of emotions. From the boogie sound of “Mr. Luc,” the Louisiana Cajun-style of “Sailin’,” to the blues of “Some Bad News,” and the country of “Life Is A Carnival,” their style makes you want to shoosh the person seated next to you so you can hear the lyrics. “Sailin’” and “Some Bad News” are standout songs.
The group is widely known for the spirit of Woodstock, recorded during the anniversary of the event. Professor “Louie” is actually Aaron L. Hurwitz. His band gave him the name “Professor Louie” out of respect for his presence and performance style. This group of four—with the Professor on keyboards and accordion—perform like a tight-knit band is supposed to perform. Hurwitz does vocals and is accompanied by Miss Marie with her vocals and percussion. That leaves Gary Burke on drums, and Frank Campbell backing up with bass and background vocals. This talented group plays festivals and street shows. The crowds enjoy the performances of this quartet and they are welcome wherever they go.
The group continues to perform concerts at premier theaters, clubs in Pennsylvania and festivals in NY and Connecticut. They continue to get rave reviews in magazines and newspapers like The Village Voice and The Record Review.
Professor Louie and the Crowmatix wowed me with their performances on the album. I felt I had visited parts of the country without leaving my office. This album cooks and you’ll enjoy the atmosphere the Crowmatix creates.
