“Instinct maybe, or perhaps a flash of intuition.”
At first, I wasn’t really looking forward to watching Bachelor Party 2. And I don’t know why, really. Instinct maybe, or perhaps a flash of intuition. A guardian angel? Could be. But then I read somewhere (oh yeah, the dvd box) that this sequel was co-written by the writers of the original Bachelor Party! And not only that, these two guys (Pat Proft and Neal Isreal) together and individually have had something to do with the writing of the original Police Academy (c’mon, the first one is still funny), Real Genius, the Naked Gun movies (as well as the television show that inspired that series, Police Squad), Tunnelvision and Moving Violations! So, I’m thinking, there’s actually a chance that Bachelor Party 2 could be pretty funny, right?
I really wanted to hope so, and the look of anticipation of my face as I sat down to check this out must have broken the heart of my aforementioned guardian angel (and he’s already been through alot). This just, well, it’s just not a very good movie. Not very funny, at least. It could have been, seeing as it’s pretty much a remake of the original (and intended that way, apparently), but it just doesn’t work. Don’t get me wrong, I chuckled a time or two, here and there… and the movie is well shot and so on. It looks good. But I need more than that from a comedy that has the writing pedigree that this one carries. I feel bad here, mostly for myself, because I was set up for a big fall. And it hurt.
As I wrote earlier, the plot is extremely similar to that of the first. And Harland Williams plays one of the bachelor’s buddies; and so does the O-Face Guy from Office Space. They both say a couple of funny things. And there are some boobs here and there. There’s also a commentary, and a couple of behind the scenes features. I felt too betrayed to attempt them. Maybe later.
