Battlestar Galactica (3.13) - Taking a Break from All Your Worries

As strange as it may seem, that title is appropriate, especially for Apollo, who’s spending a lot of time at the newly-opened Joe’s Bar on the ship. My question is: What happens if the Cylons attack and the pilots are drunk off their keisters? It seems like they have a shortage of pilots, and that they might need them all if the circumstances warranted it.
So why is Apollo drinking all the time? His marriage to Dualla is on the rocks and now Starbuck is saying she’ll leave Anders if he’ll leave Dee. Like a lot of fans, I’m now feeling like this situation is starting to wear a little thin, but it looks like it’s coming to a resolution soon so I’m not all that bothered by it. I have to give Jamie Bamber credit, too, for a great performance this episode. The scene where he lost his ring was compelling and disturbing, just as it was supposed to be.
Speaking of disturbing, the Fact that Roslin and Adama were once again willing to commit torture, this time on Baltar, was just that. Not that he doesn’t deserve it, mind you, but it’s always hard to watch the “good guys”go that far, especially with what Doc Cottle called a “freak show” (don’t you love that guy?). Combined with Baltar’s attempted suicide, it made this one of the darkest episodes of this, or any other, TV shows I’ve ever seen.
There’s a technique they’ve used in a few episodes now, where at the climactic moment of a storyline, they’ll alternate between the A story and B story so it happens almost at the same time. I’ll refrain from any inappropriate comments about a simultaneous climax, but I did want to say that I firmly believe that this method would come across very soap-operatic if it were used on almost any other show, but somehow the BSG people are able to make it work.
For those who may be wondering: No, Baltar’s new, Christ-like look has not escaped my attention, especially with all the allusions to him being the Chosen One. Add to that the fact that he apparently died for a moment after his hanging and was brought back by the guard’s CPR, and it’s obvious there’s something huge a-brewing. So he’s not a Cylon? Not a big surprise, since it would have been too obvious, and the obvious is definitely not something this show does. Gaeta attacking and trying to kill him, however, was a surprise of gargantuan proportions. What is the secret that Gaeta is hiding and willing to kill for? Could it be…
…that HE’S a Cylon?
