Wow. President Roslin and Admiral Adama can be a couple of hardasses when they really want to, can’t they? Roslin has a guy thrown in prison for quoting a book, and Adama threatens to shoot Cally as a mutineer if Chief doesn’t end the strike?
Waitaminute… Didn’t Apollo potentially doom the human race by going against the Admiral’s orders at the beginning of the season, and then get a hug from dear old dad ‘cause it succeeded? And didn’t he REALLY mutiny at the beginning of the series by siding with Roslin over Adama? And how about Helo, last week’s hero, who’s committed treason a couple of times and hasn’t even been reprimanded?
But Cally’s going to get tossed against a bulkhead in front of a firing squad because she relayed orders from her husband/boss? You’d almost think things aren’t really fair in the fleet—oh, hey, I get it! Cally’s just a “knuckle-dragger” from a poor colony, while Lee and Helo are officers from rich worlds like Caprica.
Hmmm. Very clever, those writers are.
And what’s this about Adama and Roslin telling Chief how hard everyone has it in the fleet while they hang out in the Admiral’s suite sipping martinis? It’s almost as if—man, got me again!
And Baltar writes a book from prison while awaiting trial, claiming he’s a man of the people, when we all know he’s an egomanical, pompous, self-serving, self-righteous—who does he think he’s fooling? Oh, the people who don’t know any better and don’t have it too good—got it.
These may sound like complaints about the show, but they’re not. They’re complaints about the way the characters are acting, but it’s all good. Because they’re acting human.
And for a series set in space, that’s a very cool thing.
